Xavier Nady, who had just taken over in left field for the San Francisco Giants, finally got his new uniform number. That's not to say he'll be in left field anytime soon to show it off. Nady strained his left hamstring running for a seventh-inning double by Aaron Hill in the Giants' 6-2 loss to the Diamondbacks. It's possible Nady could miss some time, and manager Bruce Bochy already said he could use Brandon Belt or Ryan Theriot in left. Gregor Blanco, who originally replaced suspended Melky Cabrera in left field, has been in a strikeout funk. Bochy said of the Nady news, "This is a blow for us. He's been swinging the bat well." Nady's slow process of becoming the Giants' left fielder began when he signed with the team in early August. He regained his stroke with Triple-A Fresno, got promoted last week among the Giants' September call-ups and played five games, going 4-for-12. Then got hurt. He'll have an MRI on Thursday ...

SF Giants Rumors: Struggles vs. D-Backs, Bumgarner, Nady and Pence

Today is a much needed day off for the San Francisco Giants. They dropped last nights game against the Diamondbacks to lose the series, and have now lost 2 straight games. Madison Bumgarner was not able to get his 15th win of the season. If/when he gets his 15th win, Bumgarner will become the 1st Giants left-hander to reach 15 wins since Shawn Estes in 2000.Outfielder Xavier Nady...

SF Giants Rumors: G-men Are Rolling, Pence Hit Streak, Machi Debut and Nady The 2012 Pat Burrell

The NL West leading (4.5 games) San Francisco Giants came home yesterday after going 5-1 on the road in Houston and Chicago.   Yesterdays game seemed like it was going to be a frustrating let down as the Giants blew a 4-0 lead to be down 7-4. However, they kept chipping away and managed to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth, and then won it in the bottom of the 10th with a...

Pablo Sandoval makes great diving catch

Pablo Sandoval would seem like an unlikely candidate to be involved in two of baseball’s most athletic plays of the season, but the Panda has turned in two amazing plays over the past few weeks. After Sandoval and Brandon Crawford teamed up for an unreal tandem catch last week, the hefty third baseman made highlight reels again last night after laying out to snag a (crappy)...

Could Melky still win batting title?

Melky Cabrera won't go away. Even as the first-place San Francisco Giants have moved on -- quite famously, in fact, with a 13-7 record since his steroid suspension -- Cabrera's name remains a nuisance to any fan who checks the National League batting statistics. That's right: Cabrera still leads the league with a .346 batting average. At a time when Major League Baseball...

Giants tie record by using 11 pitchers in loss

If San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy desires, he can be like a mad scientist with his pitching staff. Tuesday night, to some degree, he was. In an 8-6 loss in 11 innings, he used 11 pitchers, which tied a major league record and set a franchise record. The Giants also tied a team record by using 25 players. Starter Ryan Vogelsong was pulled after 3 1/3 innings. The laundry...

A Tale Of Two Cities

You know what’s sad in this day and age?  You go online to see ‘debates’ about the Giants and Dodgers, and someone, somewhere, breaks out a certain set of tired old slurs about San Francisco, and comments about certain serious diseases. I know, it’s the internet, and I shouldn’t be surprised.  And I’m not.  Doesn’t stop the disappointment.  I see that, and I almost...

Cahill faces NL West-leading Giants

The NL West-leading San Francisco Giants have one of baseball's best rotations, but they haven't been pitching up to their lofty standards lately. Madison Bumgarner is a part of this disturbing trend, and a start against the Arizona Diamondbacks might not help him out of his funk. Bumgarner tries to avoid losing a third straight start and put an end to his struggles with...

The Upcoming Dodgers Series

Tonight, the Giants begin a three-game series against the Dodgers. San Francisco currently has a four and a half game lead in the NL West, so at worst, they’ll exit this series with a one and a half game lead. These next three games are obviously crucial: after this, the Giants’ only remaining series against the Dodgers is a three-game set in Los Angeles that will take place...

Hill, Kubel lift D-backs over Giants in 11

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Aaron Hill had a career-high five hits and Jason Kubel tripled home the tiebreaking run in the 11th inning to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks over the San Francisco Giants 8-6 on Tuesday night. The first-place Giants used 11 pitches, matching a major league record for extra-inning games. They remained 4 games ahead of Los Angeles in the NL West because the Dodgers...

Diamondbacks 8, Giants 6(11)

The first-place Giants used 11 pitches, matching a major league record for extra-inning games. They remained 4 1/2 games ahead of Los Angeles in the NL West because the Dodgers also lost at...

Arizona Diamondbacks Blow Lead Again and Drop Game to San Francisco Giants in Extra Innings

For the second consecutive game the Arizona Diamondbacks have blown a late lead to a divisional rival. Yesterday J.J. Putz had his first blown save since May and Monday he repeated that performance against the San Francisco Giants who beat the Diamondbacks 9-8 in extra innings at San Francisco. The Diamondbacks had a 8-5 lead heading into the eighth inning which is a spot they...

Dodgers-Giants Preview

Despite having led the NL West three weeks ago and recently adding some big names, the Los Angeles Dodgers won't be able to escape second place this weekend. The San Francisco Giants have overcome losing a marquee player to jump well past them. This pivotal three-game set in the Bay Area starts Friday night with one of the Dodgers' star acquisitions getting his first taste...
