Found March 31, 2013 on Minus Twenty-Two:
The Giants finalized their roster for Monday’s season debut against the Dodgers. Of note, the team kept Pablo Sandoval on the active roster rather than placing him on the disable list, likely indicating the third baseman’s worrisome elbow injury is improving. With Hector Sanchez’s health iffy, the club will also carry three catchers after purchasing the contract of Guillermo Quiroz, who smacked a three-run homer in Saturday’s spring finale against the A’s. To compensate, the Giants sent OF Cole Gillespie to Triple-A. Here’s the Giants’ 25-man roster for opening day: Starting pitchers: RHP Matt Cain (opening day starter) LHP Madison Bumgarner RHP Tim Lincecum LHP Barry Zito RHP Ryan Vogelsong Bullpen: LHP Jeremy Affeldt RHP Santiago Casilla RHP Chad Gaudin RHP George Kontos LHP Javier Lopez LHP Jose Mijares RHP Sergio Romo (closer) Catchers: Buster Posey Guillermo Quiroz Hector Sanchez Infielders: Joaquin Arias Brandon Belt Brandon Crawford Nick Noonan Pablo Sandoval Marco Scutaro O...

Lincecum... oh Lincecum, what do we do with you?

If there's one thing I love about our fans is that they're loyal. Case and point, our undying love for Barry Bonds amid a sea of hatred by the rest of America. We love our role players, our bullpen guys, and everyone in between (unless they're terrible of course). Even me, The Dodgerhater, the mean guy that I am, feel pangs of sadness to see guys like Eli Whiteside...

SF Giants Rumors: Giants Extend Brian Sabean, Bruce Bochy and Buster Posey!

Credit: Steven Robles – SF Giants Rumors The San Francisco Giants have announced that they’ve extended GM Brian Sabean and manager Bruce Bochy‘s contracts through 2016, and have options for 2017. It’s nice to see the team taking care of their GM and manager after winning two World Series in a three year span. Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reported earlier that the Giants and...

Posey’s contract gives new meaning to the term “ignorance”

Buster Posey will be counted on to lead the Giants for the next several years. Tools of ignorance indeed.   Try telling that to Giants catcher Buster Posey. He just signed a nine-year, $167 million contract extension. It’s the largest guaranteed contract in history for a player with three or fewer years of major league experience.   Posey rebounded from an horrific injury in...

Giants’ Pablo Sandoval aggravates elbow injury

Entering yesterday’s exhibition contest, San Francisco Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval expressed confidence he’d be ready for Opening Day. However, his outlook was less optimistic following the game after he aggravated his elbow injury. Manager Bruce Bochy told reporters – including Daniel Brown of The San Jose Mercury News – that Sandoval was shut down...

San Francisco Giants: Buster Posey signs long-term deal with Giants

San Francisco Giants fans can rejoice, Buster Posey will likely never wear another uniform again. The icon of the Giants signed a 9-year deal that will keep him in a San Francisco jersey until 2022. The contract extension includes a full no-trade clause and can include incentives if Posey achieves certain accolades. It is an 8-year deal but could include a 9th year on a team option...

Giants 3, Athletics 1

Giants slugger Pablo Sandoval is still a possibility for opening day at Dodger Stadium, and he returned to the lineup as designated hitter in a 3-1 victory against the Oakland Athletics on Friday night. The World Series MVP hadn't played since March 16 because of an inflamed nerve in his right elbow, then returned to cheers each time he stepped into the batter's box. Buster...

Athletics 4, Giants 3

Yoenis Cespedes' slow start to spring training is a distant memory. Now Oakland's slugging outfielder is hoping to carry his hot swing into the regular season. Cespedes homered for the second time in three days, a three-run shot off San Francisco starter Ryan Vogelsong, and the Athletics held on to beat the Giants 4-3 on Saturday in the final tuneup for both teams. Unlike...

Verlander, Posey get $347 million in new deals

After leading their teams to last year's World Series, Justin Verlander and Buster Posey cashed in just hours apart Friday. The All-Star pitcher and MVP catcher were guaranteed nearly $350 million in contracts by the Tigers and Giants, a sure sign of the baseball times: Teams are awash with revenue from television and high-priced tickets. Verlander, an AL MVP and Cy Young Award...

Breaking down Buster Posey’s record contract

“We goin’ Sizzler. We goin’ Sizzler.” That’s one of my favorite lines from from one of my favorite movies, “White Men Can’t Jump.” The line comes early in the movie when Sidney (Wesley Snipes) and Billy (Woody Harrelson) put money on a shooting contest. When it appears Sidney is about to make Billy look like the chump that he is, Sidney’s friend starts mocking...

Justin Verlander, Buster Posey Contract Extensions Represent Necessary Deals for Tigers, Giants

The Tigers and Giants each made a significant investment on Friday. Each deal was monumental, and each was necessary. The Tigers signed Justin Verlander to a five-year contract extension that will take him through the 2019 season. The right-hander reportedly will earn $180 million over the next seven seasons, and a $22 million vesting option for the 2020 season could bring the total...
