San Francisco Giants
Winning Ugly is back in San Francisco. The Giants, the champs of 2012 and the favorites to repeat as the winners of the National League West this season, have had an extremely bumpy first few weeks of the still-young season. The hitting has been spotty, the starting pitching has generally not lived up to expectations, and the bullpen has had some hiccups. Even though the Giants are seen as one of the NL’s top candidates for postseason play, they often played inconsistently and looked extremely vulnerable against predicted second-division finishers like the Cubs, Padres, and Brewers.
Yet in spite of it all, the Giants finished the month of April with a winning record, going 15-12 and placing them in a tie with the Arizona Diamondbacks for second in the division. Their Pythagorean Record (for the confused, go here) is 14-13, so they aren’t exactly playing with a shortage or surplus of luck. Many of their wins have been of the come-from-behind fashion, scratching out runs in the late i...

Another game, another magical comeback for the San Francisco Giants! This time it was a 3-run homer by Brandon Belt in the top of the 8th inning to give the Giants a 7-6 lead. They then tacked on 2 more runs in the 9th, and Sergio Romo secured the victory by picking up his 11th save of the season.

On Friday, May 3, the San Francisco Giants will pay tribute to some of the great city’s favorite sons, Metallica, with a tribute night at AT&T Park. While Metallica technically was formed in Los Angeles in 1981, the band relocated to San Francisco Bay Area early on at the request of bassist Cliff Burton (the more you know). As part of the buildup to the festivities, Giants...

In a move reported by beat writer Henry Schulman in the San Francisco Chronicle, the Giants have called up outfielder Francisco Peguero from Triple-A Fresno, where he is batting .415 and scorching the baseball.
To make room on the roster San Francisco optioned their #3 catcher, Hector Sanchez, to Fresno. The 23 year old Sanchez was Buster Posey's back-up throughout the team...

If you missed last night’s game, let me give you the quick breakdown. I’ll fast forward to the top of the 9th inning. The San Francisco Giants were down 1-0 when Angel Pagan got a hit to knock out Trevor Cahill. The D-Backs went to their closer (possibly ex-closer now) J.J. Putz, who was able to strike out Marco Scutaro. However, he...
On Friday night the San Francisco Giants will hold Meteallica Night. Prior to the event starting pitcher Barry Zito, a musician himself, met the band and got the chance to perform with them.
The session started off with Zito accompanying the band on “Fade to the Black,” from their second LP Ride the Lightning.
Ironically it will be Zito on the mound tomorrow night. This year...
Cain Ain’t Able

For years Matt Cain has defied logic. Despite being a flyball pitcher with a mediocre batted ball profile and mediocre swing-and-miss ability, Cain has been one of the most reliable aces in fantasy baseball for a few years now. I don’t think I’ve ever owned him in a league, mostly because the price was too high considering...
The San Francisco Giants have optioned pitcher Sandy Rosario to Triple-A Fresno. This move is in accordance to having to clear a roster spot for Jeremy Affeldt.

San Francisco is the hometown of Metallica so it makes perfect sense that AT&T Park honor the infamous rock band. On Friday, May 3rd it will be “Metallica Night” before the San Francisco Giants take on the rival Los Angeles Dodgers. The members of Metallica will throw out the first pitch as well as perform the National Anthem. However Giants pitcher Barry Zito got to celebrate...

PHOENIX (AP) -- Brandon Belt hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning and the San Francisco Giants rallied against the Arizona bullpen for the third straight game, beating the Diamondbacks 9-6 Wednesday night to complete a three-game sweep.
Belt hit a two-run single off Brad Ziegler in the opener, and Pablo Sandoval hit a two-run homer off closer J.J. Putz on Tuesday. Belt finished...
The Giants are certainly a confusing team in 2013, but wins are wins. Brandon Belt was the hero of Tuesday evening, launching an eighth inning homerun to turn the tables on the Diamondbacks, granting the Giants a 9-6 win.
A shaky start by Tim Lincecum will surely raise more doubts about his future in San Francisco, but at least the bats are alive and well for the Black and Orange...
PHOENIX The Diamondbacks spent the offseason fortifying their bullpen, which has made its early struggles even more mystifying.
The D-backs suffered their major league-high 10th failed save conversion when closer J.J. Putz gave up a two-run home run to Pablo Sandoval for a 2-1 San Francisco victory at Chase Field on Tuesday.
Sandoval hit a split-finger pitch that stayed up in...
