John Heymen of CBSSports.com and John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle are reporting the San Francisco Giants have re-signed the right-handed reliever Guillermo Mota to a one-year $1 million deal.

Mota served as a back-of the bullpen reliever who pitched long, sometimes meaningless innings. He throws hard, strikes out a good chunk of the batters he faces, and he sweats a lot. I mean, a lot.

Mota has played in 13 seasons in the Major Leagues, with a career 3.91 ERA and a 106 ERA+ on the Montreal Expos, Los Angeles Dodgers, Florida Marlins, Cleveland Indians, New York Mets, Milwaukee Brewers and the Giants.

Last season was a decent one for the 38-year-old, his 3.81 ERA and 94 ERA+ were somewhat average, but his strikeout rate was an impressive 8.6 per nine innings. His walk rate has decreased, and his K:BB increased significantly.

Personally, I like Mota, always have. He throws very hard and is very intimidating; something the Giants bullpen welcomes.   In two seasons with the Giants, he has an accumulative 0.1 WAR. He gets batters to get ground balls(40.8% GB rate with Giants), and he has the ability to shut down two to three innings at a time.

As for his fielding, who cares? The man has made five errors in his 13 year career, no issue there.

Good for the Giants, bringing back a solid bullpen man who has a couple seasons left in him for a million dollars is a good decision.
