The Giants and Hunter Pence have been talking about a new contract recently, but no deal was ever thought to be close. It sounded like Pence would end up reaching free agency, but that may not be the case anymore. The San Francisco Giants and Hunter Pence are in "serious negotiations" about a new new contract and a deal could be close, according to Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle. Pence told Schulman that "they're about to get back to me. We're either really close or really far away." After talking with Schulman, Pence went to a "private area" of the team clubhouse and presumably called his agent to talk about the latest update. We may know when the talks accelerated. This isn't your usual negotiating room: Baer, Pence talking in clubhouse. Negotiating? #sfgiants — Henry Schulman (@hankschulman) September 28, 2013 I'm not joking. It sounded like Pence and Baer were talking about re-signing. When reporters approached they walked away. #sfgiants — Henry Schulman (@hankschulman) September 28, 2013 SERIOUSLY: Pence and #sfgiants in serious talks. Deal could be coming real soon. — Henry Schulman (@hankschulman) September 28, 2013 Hunter Pence absolutely loves playing in San Francisco. He loves the team, the city and manager Bruce Bochy. In his career, Pence has never had the comfort of a long term contract, but he will likely finally get the long term contract that he has been craving. Buster Olney of ESPN predicted earlier this month that Pence could get a contract close to five-years, $80 million. On the year, Pence hit .282 with 25 home runs and 93 RBI's. A new contract between the Giants and Hunter Pence may even get done by as early as Sunday. Stay tuned.
