Giants catcher Hector Sanchez has left Tuesday night's game against the Braves after spraining his left knee. Sanchez singled in the fourth inning and then took off for second base when pitcher Barry Zito attempted a bunt. Zito missed the ball and Sanchez appeared to hurt himself when he stopped running. He was limping as he left the field. Sanchez started with regular catcher Buster Posey playing first base. Brandon Belt ran for Sanchez and remained in the game at first base and Posey moved to catcher. The Giants say Sanchez is day to day.

Hector Sanchez to the DL, Eli Whiteside Called Up

Earlier today, the San Francisco Giants placed Hector Sanchez on the 15-day DL with a left knee strain, with Eli Whiteside coming up from Triple-A Fresno to replace him. Sanchez’s injury isn’t supposed to be all that serious — it won’t require surgery, and he should be fine within a week, but according to Baggs, with Sanchez likely out for a week, the Giants felt it made...

SF Giants Rumors: Zito Dominates, Posey’s Big Night, Sanchez Injury, EX-Giant DFA

Everyone expected the San Francisco Giants to run into a brick wall when they faced the smoking hot Braves. Instead Barry Zito tossed 7 innings of 3 hit ball and not allowing a single run. In 5 career starts at Turner Field, Zito is 4-0 with a 1.63 ERA.   Buster Posey had a BIG night! Posey collected 3 hits and 5 RBI. One of his hits was a bases loaded double that cleared the bases...

The Curious Case of Tim Lincecum

By now almost all fantasy gamers know of Tim Lincecum‘s struggles this year. If you personally own him you have been dealing with the curious case of Tim Lincecum. Tim Lincecum is a 27 year old two time CY Young winning pitcher for the San Francisco Giants with career numbers of 72-51 with a 3.25 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 1242 Ks and 430 BB. While his numbers have been trending slightly...

Chipper Jones calls out Melky Cabrera for crotch chopping again

Melky Cabrera antagonized Braves fans for the second day in a row, and this time Chipper Jones called him out for his actions. During the third inning of Tuesday’s series opener between the Braves and Giants, Cabrera did a “suck it” crotch chop to the Braves fans after making a catch. Cabrera repeated the gesture at least twice during the Giants’ 9-4 win on Wednesday....

Giants roll in wild extra-inning affair

Brandon Crawford and Gregor Blanco hit three-run homers in the 11th inning Wednesday night and the San Francisco Giants recovered after blowing a two-run lead in the 10th to record a 9-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves. Anthony Varvaro (1-1) hit Eli Whiteside with a pitch to open the 11th before walking Brandon Belt. Chad Durbin replaced Varvaro and struck out Joaquin Arias. Crawford...

Some DFA Lightning In A Bottle

The truth is, I feel bad for Jonathan Sanchez. The dude didn’t get the fairest of shakes from the Giants.  His development was never really the same with the jimmy-jack from starting to relieving to back to starting.  And as talented as he was, you never really knew if his problems with control stemmed from that at all. But, at the end of the day, he was a pitcher who had poor...

Thoughts on the Giants’ Sweep of the Astros

Yesterday, the Giants completed a three-game sweep of the Houston Astros at home to begin the second half. It’s no extraordinary feat — the Astros are now 9-35 on the road this season, which is shockingly terrible (especially considering that they have a winning record at home). But there’s something to be said for winning the games that are supposed to be won — and the Giants...

Postgame Wrap: Giants Tie Early, Win Late Against Braves

After yesterday’s easy blowout, it made perfect sense that today’s game would get a little weird. Yesterday Buster Posey led the Giants on a rout of a pitcher who used to be fantastic, while Barry Zito shut down an excellent lineup, and the Giants shut down a team that has regularly dominated them in the past. That makes sense, if only to remind you that baseball is baseball...

SF Giants Rumors: Bullpen Arms, Welcome Back, Down On The Farm

Photo Courtesy of Jesse Montellano Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com says it’s not a surprise that the San Francisco Giants are looking for bullpen help. Rosenthal says their bullpen is perceived as a strength, but their combined strikeout rate (Giants relievers) is the third-lowest in the NL.   Welcome Back All Star outfielder Melky Cabrera will rejoin the Giants today in Atlanta...

Postgame Wrap: Braves Forfeit, Giants Win 9-0

Brian McCann was dominating the National League when Buster Posey was playing shortstop as a freshman at Savannah State. There’s a new sheriff behind the dish. There’s no greater feeling as a franchise than having a young, cheap catcher who rakes on offense and is above-average behind the plate. Braves fans can tell you all about it. From 2006-2011 Brian McCann averaged an OPS...
