Jason Hammel would like to forget the fourth inning he had against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday. After allowing three straight homers to start the inning, Hammel hit Matt Tuiasosopo with a pitch and was immediately ejected by home-plate umpire Hunter Wendlestat. A GIF of the incident, via CBSSports.com Hammel and the Orioles argued that he had thrown an off-speed pitch — it appeared to be a slider — but anytime you plunk a guy (especially near the head) after allowing a trifecta of home runs, you can expect to hit the showers. The Tigers made the Orioles pay further for Hammel’s meltdown, tacking on five more runs before the inning ended.

Orioles misspell Matt Wieters' name on plaque

Last June, Baltimore Orioles catcher Matt Wieters belted a three-run home run that landed on the street in front of the warehouse behind Camden Yards. The feat is no small task. It is had been done just 68 times in the stadium's 21-year history. To commemorate the accomplishment, the team places plaques along the street with the name of the players who hit the street on a fly...

Detroit Tigers: settle in Jose Valverde haters

Easily the most enjoyable thing about watching Detroit Tigers closer Jose Valverde blow a save is perusing Twitter in the immediate aftermath. The seething hatred that fans conjure up in 140 characters or less is often a thing of beauty. In fact, it may be the only enjoyment that can be obtained from such a horrific event. The embattled closer who somehow made it look fairly easy...

Tigers designate Berry for assignment

Tiger fans hoping to see Quintin Berry back in the majors, clapping his hands after an infield single, had their hopes dashed Sunday morning. Detroit announced a minor trade, re-acquiring minor-league third baseman Francisco Martinez from Seattle for cash or a player to be named later, but the key part of the move was the next step. To put Martinez on the 40-man roster, they designated...

History Repeating for Detroit Tigers, Thanks to Mediocre Bullpen and Curious Managerial Moves

Orioles’ Adam Jones wears huge hat (VIDEO)

mlb.com When you’re on pace to hit 31 home runs, drive in 105, score 119 and bang out 213 hits like Orioles center fielder Adam Jones is, you can do what you want.  And that includes borrowing the hat belonging to the Orioles’ mascot (who is creatively called “The Oriole Bird”).  The poor bird lost his hat during the national anthem and Jones didn’t return it. Judging...

Justin Verlander To Enter The Home Run Derby?

Justin Verlander is arguably the best pitcher in the game, but it’s safe to say his hitting skills leave A LOT to be desired. With that said, Verlander isn’t content to let a little thing like his .000 lifetime batting average ruin his dream of being in the home run derby. Verlander took to twitter on Friday to semi-troll, he posted the link to the 2013 Home Run Derby voting...
