General manager Chris Antonetti agrees with Cleveland fans: The 2012 Indians are very disappointing. Antonetti said Friday nothing can be done about two long losing streaks that dropped Cleveland from 2 1/2 games out in the AL Central to fourth place and 14 1/2 behind. He said many factors contributed, but wants to finish strong. Cleveland recalled first baseman-outfielder Matt LaPorta from Columbus and optioned right-hander Frank Herrmann to the Triple-A team. LaPorta, yet to live up to being the key figure in the trade of 2007 AL Cy Young winner CC Sabathia in 2008, will be among many under scrutiny in the final 38 games. Antonetti said upcoming results will be used to evaluate everyone.

Indians Recall Matt LaPorta from Triple-A Columbus

Likely suffering from burning ears with all of the hindsight trade discussion, outfielder Matt LaPorta has received a bump to the big leagues today as the Cleveland Indians announced his promotion from the AAA Columbus Clippers.  To allow room for LaPorta, right-handed pitcher Frank Herrmann optioned to Columbus following Wednesday’s game at Seattle.  LaPorta, 27, has spent...

Tribe Injury News: Hafner Expected Back, Chisenhall Taking Batting Practice

The Cleveland Indians anticipate that both designated hitter Travis Hafner and third baseman Lonnie Chisenahll will be back at some point in the next six weeks. In his media availibility on Friday afternoon, team general manager Chris Antonetti discussed the injuries of both players, stating that Hafner (back) is expected to return at some point to finish out the 2012 season, and...

Acta Talking Like A Guy Who Wants Out…Can You Blame Him?

The losing is getting to everyone. How can is not? And its not just the fact that they actually lose seemingly every day, its the spectacular fashion in which they do. I’m not one for moral victories, but at least the Indians were in all three games this series with Seattle and didn’t get blown out. Somewhere, I can hear Harry Doyle say “you have to give ‘em credit, at least...

Indians’ Paul Dolan: I Don’t Know What Happened to This Team

This has been the most difficult stretch we’ve had as owners. At the end of July, we were in the playoffs or on the verge of the playoffs having just beat [Detroit starter Justin] Verlander, then it all fell apart. We have to understand what happened and I’m not going to make judgments on [the future of the front office] right now. But it’s certainly been a very, very difficult...

The Indians are going to trade Shin-Soo Choo this offseason

The headline seems like a rather obvious statement, but this Jon Heyman piece on CBS Sports seems to confirm what we all knew: the Indians are going to listen for offers on outfielder Shin-Soo Choo this offseason, and with his unwillingness to negotiate a contract extension, it seems likely that he's going to get moved. The 30-year old Choo isn't a superstar, but he...

Michael Brantley Gets The Indians Off Schnide With A 3-1 Win Over Those Damn Yankees

The Cleveland Indians were in the midst of a 9 game losing streak when Michael Brantley came to the plate in the first inning with Jason Kipnis on base who was hit with a pitch and Shin-Soo Choo on base who was able to draw a walk. It was time for Michael Brantley to make those damn Yankees pay for hitting Kipnis and walking Choo and that is exactly what the Indians best situation...

Indians break nine-game losing streak, beat Yankees 3-1

CLEVELAND – Cleveland Indians manager Manny Acta knows how to end a losing streak. “Power pitching and a three-run home run will always get it done,” said Acta. “It feels good.” Nearly two weeks after their last win, the Indians Saturday night finally won another one, thanks to the pitching of Justin Masterson and the hitting of Michael Brantley. Brantley’s three...

Paul Dolan Changes: Not Coming Soon

I know what you all read last night and saw this morning. Indians CEO Paul Dolan says he is not interested in making any changes to his front office or with his manager. Now before you all freak out and scream bloody murder at the Dolan ownership, take a look at the actual quotes themselves. “We all have a lot of work to do, but their jobs aren’t at stake in this. As I sit here...

Indians 3, Yankees 1

Justin Masterson handled New York's power-packed lineup for 6 2-3 innings and Michael Brantley hit a three-run homer as the Cleveland Indians snapped a nine-game skid with a 3-1 win over the Yankees on Saturday night. It's the second time this month that Masterson (10-11) has busted a long losing streak for the Indians. On Aug. 8, he beat Minnesota and stopped Cleveland...

8/25 Game Recap:Yankees 3 - Indians 1

Roster Update: The man that we at Burning River Baseball refer to as "Hero" is back on the team in hopes of bringing some offensive power. Matt LaPorta was called up for Columbus and Frank Herrmann was sent back down. Player of the Game C.C. Sabathia tried to hit Asdrubal Cabrera for retaliation of an event that occurred earlier in the game, but missed completely...
