Reggie Abercrombie brings over 14 professional seasons and over 1,500 hits to the Winnipeg Goldeyes.  The Winnipeg Sun announced late Friday afternoon that the Goldeyes signed the former Major Leaguer for the 2014 season. Abercrombie was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 23rd round of the 1999 MLB June Amateur Draft from Columbus HS. He spent six years in the minors before making his debut with the Florida Marlins in 2006. He appeared in 180 games between 2006 and 2008, splitting time between the Marlins and Houston Astros. He hit nine home runs and drove in 34. His career .223 batting average doesn't do him justice. In nearly a decade and a half of minor league baseball, Abercrombie has a career .280 batting average and over 200 home runs. He's swiped nearly 400 bases (393) and surpassed 750 RBI. The Winnipeg Sun had a lengthy discussion with Abercrombie, specifically, what he looks to gain from joining the team and what the future holds. "At 33 years of age, Abercrombie still desires another crack with a big club, following stints with the Florida Marlins and Houston Astros from 2006-2008. It's unlikely, he knows that. But now he has new motivation. My son is a big thing. I just want to keep playing so he can see and watch me play. He's four years old so now he's getting to that age that he knows that daddy plays baseball. It's like two or three more years and then I'm going to sit and watch him play.” There is no question that he can still play. Since 2010, he has played independent baseball also spent time in the Mexican League. Regardless of level or affiliation, batting .328, .293, .319 and .292 in his four independent seasons is very impressive. The 86 home runs over that period isn't something you can ignore.
