On Tuesday afternoon the Indians announced that catcher Yan Gomes has been recalled from Triple-A Columbus and that catcher Lou Marson has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a cervical neck strain.
Gomes, 25, is hitting .286 with 2 RBI and a .804 OPS in four games with Triple-A Columbus. He will be making his debut with the Indians, though has some previous Major League experience having played in 43 games and accruing 111 plate appearances last season with Toronto, hitting .204 with 4 homers, 13 RBI, and .631 OPS. He hit .407 (11-27) this spring with 5 2B, 1HR and 7RBI in 15 games.
Marson, 26, was injured in a collision at home plate on Saturday night in Tampa Bay and since that game has been limited to one-inning of emergency duty yesterday when catcher Carlos Santana injured his thumb in the ninth inning.
