New York Yankees
BALTIMORE-Curtis Granderson made good use of his time on Sunday against the Orioles. Granderson came off the bench to deliver a pinch-hit homer and five RBIs, and Derek Jeter added a two-run homer to help the New York Yankees regain first place in the American League East with a 13-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles Sunday afternoon. New York (79-61) split the key four-game series with the Orioles (78-61). The Yankees came into town one game ahead and leave Baltimore in the same spot. The two teams each won nine games in their 18-game season series, which is now finished. They wouldn't meet again unless it's in the playoffs, and the Yankees would get to host a playoff between the two teams if there is one. Granderson came into the game stuck in a 5-for-43 slump and wasn't in the starting lineup. But he came on to pinch-hit in the sixth inning with New York holding a 5-3 lead. He blasted a solo homer to center to make it 6-3 as the Yankees wound up scoring the fin...

The New York Yankees announced today that Mark Teixeira will be unable to play for 10-14 days.

From Bryan Hoch:Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is scheduled to have a MRI on his ailing left calf Monday in New York and probably won’t be available to play in this week’s series against the Red Sox, manager Joe Girardi said.

New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira will miss at least the next four games with a calf injury, and it's possible he will be out the rest of the season, ESPN.com reported Sunday. Yankees manager Joe Girardi told reporters on Sunday Teixeira will have an MRI on Monday, but he is worried that Teixeira may not play again this season. "There is part of me that wonders...
From John Harper:The Yankees have had worse nights during this stretch in which their 10-game lead, not to mention their aura of superiority, has disappeared. But this was surely the most ominous night of them all.
And not because they got jobbed by first base umpire Jerry Meals. Yes, replays showed that Mark Teixeira was easily safe diving into first base to beat a double-play...
C.C. and the rest of the Yankee lineup need to be pumped up for this game tonight and bring home a big win
Back on top in the AL East are the Yankees after a key win last night in Baltimore. It’s been a back and forth battle for them in the past week or so and for today, they maintain sole possession of first place in their division. The offense seems to be waking up slightly...
New York Yankees 4 — Baltimore Orioles 5
A controversial call ends a big night in a 5-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.
CC Sabathia struggled in tonight’s game as he gave up 5 runs on 8 hits, including 3 home runs. In the 2nd inning, the man that has hurt the Yankees all season, Mark Reynolds, got to the Yankees ace. For Reynolds, this was his 7th home run against the Yankees...
This image is from the New York Daily News website. Maybe the baseball gods were on the Orioles' side for a change.
Last night, it was all the ump's fault. That mean old umpire! Blaming them is always fun. It simply requires you to suspend reality and assume Arod would hit a HR, and that our bullpen, which has given back more than Mother Theresa, would do its job. Oh well. Those dirty umps did it. Not us.Curtis Granderson had nothing to do with it. The Grandyman has been a fine Yankee, a good...
Good morning. It is now clear to me what MUST happen if the Yankees are going to have any success in the post-season.I know. We are not likely to get there.Nonetheless, there is only one thing the Yankees can and MUST do, if they do reach post season play.Simply put; they have to win the first game every time. This team has proven, time and time again, that it can no longer win back...
Orioles right fielder Nick Markakis will be out for at least six weeks with a broken left thumb, the result of being hit by a pitch from New York Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia.
Markakis left Saturday night's 5-4 win over the Yankees in the fifth inning immediately after being struck by the pitch.
The injury will keep him out of the remainder of the regular season and deep...
This weekend, the Baltimore Orioles showed their fans – and the baseball world – that they are in the playoff race to stay for sure. They have played their rivals, the New York Yankees to the limit and showed them the same old script has indeed changed.
After being beaten down by them for so long, the Orioles were looking to take the long, four-game series from the Yankees...
BALTIMORE -- Backed by home runs from Mark Reynolds, Lew Ford and J.J. Hardy, the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Yankees 5-4 on Saturday night to once again move into a first-place tie with New York in the American League East. Ford and Hardy both knocked in two runs, and Reynolds homered for the seventh time this season against the Yankees (78-61). The Orioles beat New York starter...
By the end of last week I was ready to declare the Yankees dead. However, they showed me something this past weekend by splitting 4 games with the second-place Baltimore Orioles. In this episode of the podcast I talk about my near-eulogy, eat a little crow and recap the weekend series at Camden Yards. Also, Paul (Sully) Sullivan of the Red Sox blog Sully Baseball returns to the show...
