Recently, I found myself pondering and age old mystery: Do squirrels fart? I know….profound, right? Naturally, I then started to wonder if control artist pitchers would be any better at playing darts than pitchers with ordinary or no control, another one of life’s great mysteries. You can temper your enthusiasm as this article will not answer those mysteries. Some of you may be scratching your heads right about now, but I promise to tie it all together. The recent trade of Kevin Slowey got me to thinking about high control pitchers. Yes, Kevin Slowey was traded again. Maddux and Slowey represent two of baseball’s best when it comes to not issuing walks. The Padres have two players almost major league ready that have very similar control profiles. Robbie Erlin and Joseph Wieland were acquired, as many of you know, from the Texas Rangers for Mike Adams before the 2011 trade deadline. Each has not disappointed since joining the Padres organization. Here are the career, to this po...

Top Minor League Prospects: Cleveland Indians

We’re here to help you prepare for the unexpected by ranking each team’s top five minor league prospects from a fantasy perspective. While they may not be the team’s brightest stars (though many of them will be) they’re the names you’ll need...

Today in 1941: Indians’ Bob Feller Highest Paid MLB Player Making $40,000

From the Associated Press via the Tuscaloosa News, we find that Cleveland Indians’ starting pitcher Bob Feller is in fact still the highest paid player in the game despite some consternation surrounding said topic.  Coincidentally, this January 23, 1941 report arrives in the column next to a report surrounding the wife of George Herman “Babe” Ruth stating that...

Did Rockies outsmart Twins in Kevin Slowey trade?

Colorado has since traded Slowey for a better relief prospect, but there's more to it than that.

Manny Acta: “We Need ‘Fausto Carmona’”

Cleveland Indians manager Manny Acta says the pitcher known as Fausto Carmona is an important part of the rotation and the team is doing what it can to speed up his arrival. Acta told The Associated Press late Monday that the team is making the necessary moves to get Carmona to the United States for the coming season but also will be prepared to go without him. Says Acta: “...

Carlos Santana Player Projection No. 80

Key Stats: Carlos Santana is currently the first catcher off the boards in early mock drafts going in the 2nd or 3rd round. He has displayed power at every step of his young career and also shown an ability to hit for average, so the abysmal .239 he hit last year can safely be dismissed as a young player adjusting. Despite that he still pounded 25 HR's and 79 RBI's on fairly...

Give new Tribe starter Kevin Slowey a chance with change of scenery - Comment of the Day

"The Twins went 0-14 in Slowey's 8 losses and 6 relief appearances. But before last year, Slowey was a pretty decent pitcher for several years. The guy may have been a clubhouse problem last year, but a team going 0-14 whenever he was on the mound might have led the guy to a breakdown, otherwise it would mean he did not care. Plus, the Twins were missing their regular outfielders...

Chris will also give his take on the NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl.

Carmona points out an MLB inequity

Goodbye Fausto! Hello Roberto! As reported last week, 28-year-old Fausto Carmona is Roberto Hernandez Heredia and perhaps 31 years old. There are implications here for Carmona-Heredia, for the Indians and, most importantly, for professional baseball and the uneven way it deals with international players. Since being released on bail, The Sinkerballer Formally Known as Fausto has...

On Lee Fohl and the Lessons of Cleveland Fandom

You may be about to learn two things about me.  First, while many of you know this already, I’ve never made my provenance entirely explicit.  I was born in St. Louis, MO and spent most of my childhood there.  This made me (and still makes me) a fairly die-hard Cardinals fan.  It also makes me a fan who has reveled in–depending on how and whom you count–anywhere...

Cleveland Indians trying to get Fausto Carmona to U.S. as fast as possible

Manager Manny Acta denies saying that Fausto Carmona, identified as Roberto Hernandez Heredia by authorities in the Dominican Repbulic, would miss spring training because of his arrest last week for using a false indentification.

Acta: Indians trying to get 'Carmona' to U.S.

The Cleveland Indians manager says the pitcher known as Fausto Carmona won't be making it to spring training.
