A.J. Griffin pitched the best game of his career Wednesday afternoon, keeping Cincinnati hitters off balance for his first complete game shutout. After the first two batters he faced got on base via a walk and an error, the righty cruised through the Reds lineup, striking out seven and allowing just two hits enroute to a 5-0 Athletics victory. “I’m sure you guys weren’t thinking that after a 22 pitch first inning that it was going to be a complete game, neither was I, but I just went out there and kept trying to execute pitches and it worked out,” said Griffin. “He was spectacular. Working both sides of the plate; change up, curveball, speed ‘em up, slow ‘em down. It was an impressive performance,” said Bob Melvin.
