Right-hander Jeremy Guthrie made his Kansas City Royals debut Sunday. It was not great, but it was better than what left-hander Jonathan Sanchez had given the Royals. The Royals acquired Guthrie on Friday in a trade for Sanchez with the Rockies. Working on three days' rest, Guthrie allowed five runs on four hits, including a Ryan Doumit home run, and three walks in five innings. He threw 30 of his 91 pitches in the third inning, when the Twins scored four runs after two outs. That probably was not what manger Ned Yost wanted to see from his newly acquired veteran right-hander. "Actually, it was," Yost said. "I thought he threw the ball OK. He had a rough third inning, but I didn't think he made a horrible pitch. He kept the ball down in the zone and I don't think he elevated all day. "He was throwing his breaking balls down and kept his stuff down all day. He made good pitches, and I thought they hit good pitches. I was impressed. "...

Escobar continues to be a benefactor for this struggling Royals team.

Alcides Escobar continues to show up that maybe, just maybe, Kevin Seitzer knows what he's doing. Over the past few weeks it seems like there's been a tug of war match between Escobar and future hall-of-famer Derel Jeter for top batting average among short stops. At the moment there is a stalemate between the two, both being at .311, however Alcides is in the top...

Burlington Royals: The Best in the League

The Burlington Royals open a three game series with the Greenville Astros tonight at Burlington.  As I begin to type, the Royals have a 9-3 lead in the bottom of the 7th, well on their way to what will be their seventh straight win.  The Royals took first place from the Danville Braves last week, on the strength of a 4-game sweep over the Braves, who had the best record in the...

Royals Home Runs Through 95 Games: Butler back on 30+ HR pace

It has been quite a while (36 games) since we last checked in on the home run paces of the members of the Kansas City Royals offense. The offensive power has been interesting and the paces have jumped back up a bit, but the question Royals fans always find themselves asking - Will Steve Balboni's team home run record of 36 (1985) ever be broken? While no member of the Royals...

Guthrie gets easy task of replacing Sanchez

KANSAS CITY, Mo. We know Jeremy Guthrie spent two years on a Mormon mission. We know he digs bikes. We know he takes the environment seriously. Himself? Not so much. On Friday, the newest Kansas City Royal tweeted this: "I just told Dayton Moore on phone that the 1st player I would've chose for HR Derby would've been Billy Butler." Oh, you cad. "You...

New York Yankees Interested in Trading for Alex Gordon?

According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the New York Yankees may be interested in trading with the Kansas City Royals to acquire Gold Glove left-fielder Alex Gordon. We keep mentioning him as possible trade bait for the Royals, who are trying to acquire more pitching after the Jonathan Sanchez misfire. With Brett Gardner having surgery, don’t dismiss possible interest...

Deduno, Twins look to take series from Royals

The Kansas City Royals hope a return to the American League can help Jeremy Guthrie after he struggled the last four months as a member of the NL. Facing the Minnesota Twins can only help his re-acclimation. Guthrie is scheduled to make his first start for the Royals on Sunday when they close their series against the Minnesota Twins. Kansas City acquired Guthrie from Colorado...

Hosmer regains his stroke in bottom half of order

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost believes Eric Hosmer will hit third in the batting order most of his career. Hosmer, however, was failing in that slot this season -- a .165 batting average with two home runs and 12 RBI in 137 plate-appearances. Last week, Yost decided it was time to drop Hosmer down in the batting order. Hosmer first moved to sixth for two games, then landed...

Royals 7, Twins 3

Lorenzo Cain drove in three runs and Alex Gordon had three hits and scored two runs as the Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota Twins 7-3 on Saturday night. Cain delivered run-producing singles in the first and fifth innings and he had an RBI-double in the seventh. Cain's three RBIs matched a career high, accomplished twice in 2010 when he was with Milwaukee. Gordon had his...

Omaha Storm Chasers hosting peanut-free game

Anyone going out to the Omaha Storm Chasers ball game on Aug. 1 won't be able to buy peanuts or, for that matter, Cracker Jack. The Pacific Coast League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals will take anything containing peanuts off its concessions menu for the game against the Reno Aces. The Storm Chasers and an Omaha allergy clinic are holding Peanut Free Night to bring awareness...

Available Royals: Jonathan Broxton, Jose Mijares, Jeff Francoeur, Yuniesky Betancourt

Nothing breaking here, but Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com sent out a tweet this evening stating Jonathan Broxton, Jose Mijares, Jeff Francoeur and Yuniesky Betancourt have all been officially made available on the trading block by the Kansas City Royals. Keep Reading

Royals fall to Twins in series finale

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Ryan Doumit homered from both sides of the plate and drove in four runs to lead the Minnesota Twins to a 7-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. Doumit became the third Twins player to go deep both right-handed and left-handed in a game. The others were Chili Davis (1992) and Roy Smalley (1986). Doumit homered to lead off the second inning swinging...

Royals-Angels Preview

(AP) -- A matchup with the slumping Kansas City Royals might give C.J. Wilson just what he needs to get back on track following his worst outing of the season. The Los Angeles Angels left-hander will try to do just that while helping his team continue its recent success at home Monday night. Wilson (9-6, 2.82 ERA) had a 1.74 ERA over his 10 starts before Wednesday's 7-2 loss...
