Philadelphia Phillies ace Roy Halladay who got rocked by the Atlanta Braves on Saturday and is suffering from back spasms is still scheduled to start this Thursday. The Doc visited the doctor and all seems to be okay so with that the team doesn’t plan on shutting him down. Amaro, the Phillies’ GM, said all examinations of Halladay’s shoulder and back have “seemed OK.” He said Halladay, at this point, is scheduled to make his next start. That should come Thursday against Washington. Halladay described his latest injury as “spasms” behind his shoulder. Amaro said it is “tightness in his mid-to-upper back.” (Philly.com) Some of started to say the Phillies should shut Halladay down. They’re saying how emotionally down he looked on Saturdays and maybe he can use the mental break. He’s had a long season, he’s been up and down performance wise and he’s suffered numerous ailments. So is it a good idea to shut him down? Let him rest his body and mind? The team’s not sure. “It’s ta

Phillies' Halladay iffy for next start -- and rest of season

The Philadelphia Phillies have a chance Thursday to start a pitcher with 198 career wins, two Cy Young Awards and $20 million in annual salary against the Washington Nationals. Yet for reasons physical, precautionary and a little fuzzy, they are resisting committing one more start this season to Roy Halladay. Halladay, 35, labored through 1 2/3 innings Saturday, surrendering...

The Beginning of the End for the Phillies

Was it over before it began because of a missing Howard? (PHOTO: AP) …Or maybe the beginning of the end was really nine days ago when the Phillies lost three-of-four to the worst team in the NL, the Houston Astros. Maybe it was the beginning of the end when Carlos Ruiz went down with a foot injury and missed the dog days of summer. Maybe it was the beginning of the end when Roy...

Darin Ruf's first major league hit is a home run

Phillies fans are excited about Darin Ruf, who spent the year with AA Reading and broke the team record for home runs in a season, blasting 38 dingers on the season. However, he turned 26 in July and was way too old for the level. While that's true, the fact that he's a power threat is also true, regardless of age. In Tuesday's Phillies-Nationals game, Ruf cracked his...

Phillies Darin Ruf Hits First Big League Homer – Exclusive Video

Philadelphia Phillies prospect Darin Ruf hit his first Homerun in the second inning of tonight’s Phillies Nationals game. This exclusive video includes his entire at bat and his teammates ignoring him as he came around the bases and into the dugout.

Phils Drop Series, Wild Card Chances are Bleak

Just two hits by the offense and some lackluster defense led to another loss on Sunday, as the Phillies dropped the series finale to the Braves, by a score of 2-1. Roughly a year following the Phillies contributing to Atlanta’s historic collapse down the stretch and missing the playoffs in 2011, it seemed to be the Braves that did in the Phils this time around, as the team that...

Philadelphia Phillies: 2012 ERA for the NL East at game 153

Pregame: Phillies Begin the Final Lap

Well we're in territory we haven't been in lately. Unless the Phillies win out and a bunch of people lose, the smart money is on the notion that they are playing the final 9 games. Sharing that idea could possibly be Charlie Manuel as he calls on Darin Ruf to make his first major league start in LF. We've only seen a few pinch hit ABs so far so this is the first...

Halladay Exits Early, Phillies Struggle in 8-2 Loss to Braves

The Phillies have put themselves into a position in the second wildcard race where a series like this is a must-win. In fact, the next 11 games are all must-wins. They hoped Roy Halladay could help them continue their winning streak, but it wouldn't be that simple. In the top of the first inning, Jason Heyward and Chipper Jones scored on a three-run home run off the bat...

Loss to Braves Kills Phillies Playoff Hopes

While they are not “officially” out of it yet, the Phillies have dropped to 5 games out of the Wild Card race after 2 straight losses to the Braves. With 4 teams in front of them and only 9 games to go, the Phillies playoff hopes are all but dead. On the mound today, Cliff Lee put forward a valiant effort, working in and out of trouble throughout the game. Despite his many challenges...

Hamels gets 16th win, with help of Ruf

With the Phillies (78-76) all but out of postseason contention, Charlie Manuel gave Ruf a shot to show what he’s got in Tuesday’s series opener against the team with baseball’s best record. Playing left field for six innings, Ruf went 2-for-3 and started a string of five unanswered Phillies runs that ultimately decided the game. Though he was not his sharpest, Cole Hamels...

They must rebound today and try to take the final game of the series. Cliff Lee has been terrific lately. He’s 4-0 with a 1.63 ERA in his last...

Nationals-Phillies Preview

While the Washington Nationals are getting closer to securing the first division title in franchise history, the Philadelphia Phillies' chances of reaching the postseason for the sixth straight year are dwindling. Coming off a tough weekend, Philadelphia looks to get back on track behind Cole Hamels on Tuesday night when it hosts the NL East-leading Nationals in the opener of...
