The October 16th, 2013 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Pujols' lawyer fires back at lie detector request, the first Angel top prospect list of the off-season and much more...
The Story: Albert Pujols' lawyer fires back at Jack Clark's lawyer's request for a lie detector test.
The Monkey Says: This is why Albert should never have sued. His lawyer rightly points out that lie detector tests are inadmissible and that Clark's lawyer is just pulling a publicity stunt. But by refusing the test, it makes Albert look like he has something to hide, even if he doesn't. Everyone says there is no way this goes to trial, but the level of animosity here certainly makes it seem like it will.
The Story: The first Angels top prospect list (as far as I know) of the off-season
The Monkey Says: Not that I am disparaging anyone because these lists are always quite arbitrary, but I have a hard time figuring how Taylor Lindsey is #7 in the organization.
The Story: The Angels should trade for Cliff Lee.
The Monkey Says: And Kate Upton should lust for me endlessly. This is a horribly uninformed idea. There is no taking into account that the Phillies have been largely disinclined to trade Lee and completely ignores the Angels' not having unlimited financial resources due to luxury tax concerns. There is also the fact that they have no real prospects to trade. Sending the Phillies Kendrick and Trumbo (who they don't need, by the way) wouldn't even be close to what it takes to pry Lee loose.
The Story: Mike Trout has the highest OPS+ amongst players under 23 in their first three years.
The Monkey Says: A fun fact, by kind of cheating since Trout has really only played two seasons. I don't feel like his brief stint in 2011 should really count as a full year. Nonetheless, I'm sure Trout will still lead this list after his actual third season is complete.
