With 10 days left until the trade deadline, Cole Hamels is still proving he wants to stay in Philadelphia. After surrendering home runs to opposing pitcher Matt Cain and catcher Buster Posey in the top of the third, Hamels answered with a shot over the right field wall. For Hamels that is his 1st home run in 420 at bats.

Hamels has been saying all along that he wants to retire as a Phillie. With a different rumor circulating everyday,  many curious fans speculate the status of left handed gem Cole  Hamels. Will he stay or will he go is the biggest question in Philadelphia.

According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports both sides are heading “in the right direction.” Talks have been heating up to keep Cole Hamels in the City of Brotherly Love. Cole Hamels is seeking a contract similar to Left-handed pitcher Matt Cain in which he signed for 6 years/$127.5 million earlier this season. Matt Cain has an option for a seventh year which could bring his earnings up to $141 million through the 2018 season. Hamels’ could reach up to $144 milion over 6 years.

Many teams have backed away of talks with Cole Hamels and have focused more on Cliff Lee. The Texas Rangers sent scouts to watch Lee perform against the Dodgers. The Rangers are looking to add another ace in their pitching rotation to put them over the top in the American League.

If/When Cole Hamels signs with the Phillies, he could possibly be the 2nd highest paid pitcher in the MLB behind CC Sabbathia. This season Hamels is 11-4 with a 3.07 ERA and 125 strikeouts before Saturday’s game. Hamels allowed 5 runs on 124 pitcheres in 8 2/3 innings against the Giants on Saturday.
