ARLINGTON, Texas Josh Hamilton's return to Rangers Ballpark didn't go so well on the field or in the stands for his family.
While Hamilton said his family was fine, there was a security guard around his wife Katie and their daughters.
"Just guys being ugly, inappropriate to my wife," Hamilton said. "People being dumbasses."
A Los Angeles club official said the team requested a security guard be posted around the family during the game and the Rangers accommodated. Hamilton tried to put a positive spin on his family's treatment.
"It was a great lesson for my kids to understand how people can be," he said. "It was wonderful lesson. They understand. They get it. They understand they put their trust in faith in God, not man, period."
Hamilton said his family wasn't upset about anything by the time he got home.
"They kissed me and hugged me and said good game," said Hamilton, whose family planned to be at Saturday's game as well. "They went on about playing with their little friends they had over. I went out and jumped on the trampoline with them. So it was like any other game coming home."
Hamilton's family wasn't the only one hearing from fans. He said some fans also crossed the line with him, chanting "Crackhead" and "Sherlock's", in reference to his bar he drank at last January.
"Anytime people bring up people's mistakes and throws it in their face, that always crosses the line," he said. "Even at my most high time if I went to a game or something, I never had that in me to do that to somebody. It always makes you wonder and think 'What are people thinking?'"

ARLINGTON, Texas Fans in right field at Rangers Ballpark had a long weekend of heckling Josh Hamilton in his return to Rangers Ballpark.
Hamilton said some of the fans crossed the line, but he also had fun with it too. He played like he was throwing a football in reference to his football town comments this spring.
But did he take things too far by making an obscene gesture...
ARLINGTON, Texas While the boos and jeers rained down on Josh Hamilton during his return to Rangers Ballpark, he got some comforting words in the dugout.
"He said, 'Where was Jesus got-after the most? His hometown,'" said the deeply religious Hamilton, who declined to name the source of inspiration. "Baseball wise, this is my hometown."

Friday was the home opener for the Texas Rangers after opening the season down the road in Houston, and their opponents for the first series of the year with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and former Ranger outfielder Josh Hamilton. Hamilton came to the plate for the first time in the top of the second, and as you can tell in the video above, the Rangers faithful weren't...
Josh Hamilton is headed back to Arlington, Texas, the place where his baseball career came back to life and where he put up some of his biggest numbers. But the slugger, who signed with Los Angeles this offseason, isn’t expecting a warm welcome — and he knows exactly why.
Shortly after Hamilton signed with the Angels, he angered much of Texas by calling Dallas “a football town...
Josh Hamilton returned to Arlington on Friday and did about as well as could be expected with a pair of strikeouts as the Rangers went on to win 3-2.
The fans gave him the kind of reception they thought he deserved, and after the game that was one of the things that he was asked about. However, what I love about his interview is his subtle little message for the fans in Texas...
ARLINGTON — Los Angeles Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton says his wife had to call for security before his first game against the Texas Rangers because fans of his former team were shouting obscenities and personal insults at his family.
The All-Star slugger said Saturday that security guards stayed near his wife, Katie, and their children, and there weren’t any major incidents...
Josh Hamilton will be in the other dugout when the Texas Rangers play their home opener Friday.
Texas is coming off an opening series at Houston, when Yu Darvish was one out from a perfect game and Rangers pitchers struck out 43 batters in posting two shutouts. But so much attention in the first home series will be on Hamilton being in a Los Angeles Angels uniform.
Josh Hamilton did not have the smoothest end to his time with the Texas Rangers at the end of last season nor when he opted to sign with a division rival over the Rangers. Fans were not too distraught over his departure with the way he played down the stretch, but that does not necessarily mean they wanted him to go.
Once he regained control of his demons again he'd be back to...
The DFW sports headlines from the weekend were likely all about Josh Hamilton — he had some interesting quotes Friday, requested extra security for his family on Saturday and made some gestures to the outfield crowd tonight — but he was pretty much a non-factor on the field. He had three hits in tonight’s game, but before that, he was hitless with four strikeouts. Honestly...

Pujols hit a two-run shot to the lawn in center field off Matt Harrison in the first inning and watched Hamilton strike out twice and fly out behind him after taking three intentional walks.
