Jay Bruce hit a three-run double and Todd Frazier followed with a homer that capped a five-run burst in the first inning. Bronson Arroyo (14-11) made it stand up, lasting five innings to win for the first time in nearly a month. Neil Walker hit his 13th homer of the season, but Pittsburgh stumbled in its home finale. The Reds took two of three this weekend, and have won five of six overall. The Pirates went 5-6 in their final homestand. Hamilton kept creating havoc on the bases. A record-setting basestealer in the minors, he is 12 for 12 on swipe tries since his late-season promotion from Tr...

Cautionary remark pertaining to Hamilton’s limited offensive potential at the plate. Renewed appreciation...

Shin-Soo Choo hopes to return to lineup on Monday

Shin-Soo Choo hopes to be back in the Reds lineup when the team plays host to the New York Mets on Monday. Choo injured his left thumb on a play in the ninth inning of Friday's game when he slid headfirst into first base. Fortunately, X-rays taken on his thumb Saturday were negative. “The bones and everything are OK,” he said. “That eased my mind. I was scared...

Is Billy Hamilton a Wise September Call Up? Every now and then, a player comes along that really captures the attention of fantasy baseball players.  Often, that’s because he has put up some gaudy minor league statistics. SEPTEMBER STEAL: Billy Hamilton scored the winning run for the Reds in one run wins on September 3 and 7 and stole 4 bases in one game versus the Astros. Billy...

Mat Latos has been pitching hurt since June

By all accounts, Mat Latos has pitched exceptionally well for the Reds this season. But he says he has been doing so hurt since late June. According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Latos told a reporter that he has been battling an abdominal strain since pitching against the Texas Rangers on June 30. His comments came while discussing his discontent with fans criticizing his performance...

Reds clinch playoff berth, beat Mets 3-2 in 10th

No champagne. No curtain call in front of joyous fans. No celebrating at all, really. The Cincinnati Reds clinched a playoff spot with hardly any notice. If anything, they were a little bummed out. Shin-Soo Choo drove in the winning run with a single off the wall in the 10th inning, and the Reds secured their third playoff spot in four years shortly after beating the New York Mets...

Choo Gotta Be Kiddin’ Me… Harang and Duda Bright Spots In 3-2 Loss

DEEP ENOUGH… CHOO WINS IT FOR REDS… Aaron Harang went six strong and Duda had a day, but it was not enough as the Reds edged the Amazin’s 3-2. The Reds struck first when (future Met?????) Shin-Soo Choo hit a grounder right back up the middle to bring around Todd Frazier. Harang then issued consecutive walks, plating Ryan Hanigan and giving the Reds a 2-0 lead. The Mets hit...

Mets fall to Reds 3-2 in 10 innings

Aaron Harang couldn't get a win in a ballpark where he's always felt comfortable. The right-hander went six innings in his third start for the New York Mets, but the offense wasn't much help as the Cincinnati Reds rallied for a 3-2 win in 10 innings on Monday night. Shin-Soo Choo drove in the winning run with a single high off the wall in the 10th, and the Reds clinched...

Reds stun Pirates with three runs in ninth

It looked pretty desperate for the Reds Friday night in Game 1 of the showdown with the Pittsburgh Pirates. They entered the ninth down three runs and were facing a guy with a 1.32 ERA. But the Reds turned a break into a three-run rally to tie it in the ninth. Joey Votto won it in the 10th with a line drive home run to left for his 24th. It all added up to a very big 6-5 win over...

Mets-Reds Preview

Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker remains cautiously optimistic about starter Johnny Cueto, who is just one start removed from a long stint on the disabled list. It's difficult to blame him given Cueto's injury history. Trying to move closer to securing a third playoff appearance in four years, Cincinnati sends Cueto to the mound in Monday night's series opener with...

Reds pummel Pirates in rubber match, 11-3

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Cincinnati Reds – Game 156

I hope last night’s performance put your mind at ease a bit.  I certainly understand the nerves, this has been such a long time coming, but it’s such a longshot at this point that the Pirates miss the playoffs.  This has just been a crazy time.  Something we aren’t used to as baseball fans.
