Shutting Down Stephen Strasburg Makes Sense Long-Term, But Nationals Owe It to Themselves to Play for Now

The Washington Nationals are going to shut down Stephen Strasburg. Once more, with emphasis: the first-place Washington Nationals are going to willingly tell their best pitcher, their ace, to stop taking the mound every five days in the middle of a pennant race. In theory, this makes a little bit of sense. Strasburg underwent Tommy John surgery in 2010, only pitched 44 innings in...

Werth, sidelined nearly three months by a broken left wrist, called general manager Mike Rizzo on Wednesday night after a rehab assignment at Class-A Potomac to say he was ready to return. Carlos Lee hits umpire in the head with his bat (Video)

The below video should be a lesson to all home plate umpires who have to stand behind Miami Marlins slugger Carlos Lee. During Wednesday's Marlins/Braves game, Lee was at the plate when a pitch from Atlanta's Ben Sheets caused Carlos to swing so hard that his back swing hit umpire Joe West in the head. West was a little bloodied from the moment but stayed on because...

Emilio Bonifacio Reinjures Thumb

If you missed Miami Marlins second baseman, Emilio Bonifacio, in your lineup last night, that’s because the Marlins placed him on the 15 day disabled list on Saturday. In an AP report via ESPN, Bonifacio re-injured his left thumb on Friday night in a game against the Washington Nationals.  Bonifacio did have surgery on the same thumb back in May. The injury is not as severe this...

Big Eighth!

Big eighth! There's Danny Espinosa after his triumphant return to the dugout in the 8th: by our count, two buckets of bubblegum thrown, then a curtain call. Pretty nice little Saturday for Espi. Screencaps via MASN/TV. Nationals 10, Marlins 7: Sloppy, ugly, messy night turns glorious. Just a big ol' six run eighth, no big deal.  Thank you Mike Dunn -- error...
