TEMPE, Ariz. -- Angels right-handed starter Tommy Hanson left Wednesday's game against the Cleveland Indians with stiffness in his right triceps. The Angels were leading 4-2 at the time. Hanson got through three innings and was warming up for the fourth when catcher Chris Iannetta noticed something different in Hanson's delivery. "Chris came out to the mound and asked if I was OK," Hanson said. "I told him I was fine, but after a few more warmups he came out again, and the trainer and Mike (Scioscia) came out, too. "There was a little stiffness, but I'm definitely fine. Actually, this is the best I've felt in a few years." Hansen has struggled with back and arm issues over the past two years, but says his removal from the game Wednesday was strictly precautionary. No MRI is scheduled and Hanson is not expected to miss any time. He was acquired during the off-season from the Atlanta Braves for reliever Jordan Walden. If healthy, Hanson is expected to be the Halos' No. 3 starter.

Angels 6, Indians 5

Tommy Hanson insisted he was OK and wanted to stay on the mound. The Los Angeles Angels took a different approach with their new starter. Hanson was pulled because of tightness in his right triceps as he warmed up for the fourth inning in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Cleveland Indians. ''It's fine,'' Hanson said during the game. ''I think they just...

Good news for Angels: Pujols ready to start

MARYVALE, Ariz. The Angels are having a brutal spring training by won-loss standards they're last in the majors at 5-13 but they got some good news Tuesday despite another defeat, a 6-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. AngelsWin.com's Spring Fanfest - A Weekend To Remember

By Ellen Bell, AngelsWin.com Staff Writer --  Spring Training is a time of renewal and recommitment to your team. It’s the one time of the year when all baseball fans have the luxury of believing that this could be their year. In those precious, optimistic weeks of March, before a single pitch has been thrown on Opening Day, anything is possible.  That’s exactly why I...

Angels reliever Madson's suffers minor setback

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Ryan Madsons return from Tommy John surgery hit a minor snag when the reliever experienced tightness in his elbow after last Thursdays bullpen session, a setback that prompted the right-hander to tweak his exercise and throwing program to meet the more rigorous demands of throwing off a mound. Madson, who has thrown off a mound only twice since Feb. 1, played long...

Weaver, Hanson and the velocity that is (probably) never coming back

Leading up to the season we've heard a lot about lost velocity. Specifically, the velocity that Jered Weaver and Tommy Hanson lost over the last few years. There has been much hand-wringing over whether or not Jered and Tommy would be able to recover that velocity and if they don't, how they will adjust to life with a not-as-fast fastball. Mike Scioscia even went so far as...

The forgotten Angels: Chris Iannetta

The Angels preseason press is unequivocal. Mike Trout is the new Mickey Mantle. Pujols, Hamilton and Trumbo are the new Murderer’s Row. Weaver could be the new Verlander, if it wasn’t for the fact that, annoyingly, every year some guy called “Verlander” keeps being that. Spring training is winding up, and the Angels are a team of new promise. But one question remains...

The Angels 2013 payroll according to WAR

Last year I did this little exercise to demonstrate how much bang the Angels got for their buck payroll-wise. It was a look back at how on a WAR basis, the Angels' various investments paid off. Folks seemed to like it, so I thought I'd do it again. As with last year, the big caveat is that this is a valuation model of about $4.5 million per WAR. That amount is essentially...

Rangers 10, Angels 9

Josh Hamilton knows there will be some boos when he returns to Arlington the first week of the season. If he performs the way he did during his first game against Texas on Thursday night, they will be well earned. Hamilton hit one of four home runs for Los Angeles in the top of the fourth inning off Derek Lowe, but the Angels lost 10-9 to the Rangers. ''The guys already...

Brewers 6, Angels 1

In a game where balls and strikes were briefly called from behind the pitcher's mound after an umpire was injured, Albert Pujols made his spring debut at first base for the Los Angeles Angels in a 6-1 loss Tuesday to the Milwaukee Brewers. Pujols played the field for the first time since offseason surgery on his right knee. The slugger went 0 for 2. Rickie Weeks, Aramis Ramirez...

MLB umpire Tim McClelland calls pitches from behind mound at Angels/Brewers spring training game (Video)

We've posted some pretty interesting moments from 2013 MLB spring training so far but this moment from last Tuesday's Los Angeles Angels/Milwaukee Brewers game might take the cake. In the first inning, home plate umpire Seth Buckminster was injured after a pitch thrown by Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Willie Peralta deflected off Angels slugger Albert Pujols and then hit...
