Today is Kevin Stocker's 42nd birthday. Drafted in 1991, Stocker made his major league debut with the Phillies in 1993 and what a doozy it was. Stocker's debut turned out to be a 20-inning game lasting over six hours against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Mitch Williams blew a save in the ninth inning by allowing two runs, walking three batters and a single to force in one run and Larry Andersen gave up a single for a second charged run to Williams. Mike Williams gave up a run in the top of the 20th inning when Jose Offerman scored on a throwing error but the Phillies picked up the win in the bottom of the inning when Jim Eisenreich and Mickey Morandini were put in to scoring position on sacrifice bunt off the bat of Stocker (Stocker was safe on a fielder's choice) and Lenny Dykstra brought them home for the win on a walk-off ground-rule double.
Stocker struck out twice in an 0-for-6 debut but did scored one run and walked twice.

BEST OF MAXIM
The pitchers and catchers report to Camelback Ranch for the Dodgers today, Feb. 12, which officially kicks off baseball season, and tomorrow, Feb. 13, they”ll have their first workout, in which I like to imagine Aaron Harang lumbering through conditioning drills like a monkey. Everybody will report to camp on Friday, Feb. 15, and Spring Training will be in full swing the following...
The Dodgers have signed righty reliever Mark Lowe to a minor-league deal with an invitation to Spring Training.
Lowe provides further depth to an already deep bullpen corps. He was a solid strikeout man as recently as 2011, but has never been anything more than a back of the pen arm, with a career 4.10 FIP.
The Dodgers are bringing Kevin Gregg in to camp on a minor-league...
This is the final post in a four-part series projecting the Dodgers' full-season minor league teams. To close out the series, the Albuquerque Isotopes.
Part 1: Great Lakes Loons
Part 2: Rancho Cucamonga Quakes
Part 3: Chattanooga Lookouts
The Isotopes finished as the Pacific Coast League American Southern division with an 80-64 record. The 'Topes faced off against...
In Mike Piazza's new autobiography Long Shot, the former Dodgers catcher has done the unthinkable: he's taken legendary Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully to task.
Piazza blames Scully for turning fans against him heading into the 1998 season, his final contracted year with the Dodgers before hitting free agency. Piazza wanted a seven year, $105 million contract from Los...
HOW DOES HE REALLY FEEL?
Carl Crawford, now a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, bitterly recalls his time with the Boston Red Sox, referring to the environment as "toxic."
I suppose this is like a Valentine's Day gift to myself even though this purchase occurred at some point in the second half of 2012. That's right, it was so long ago I don't even know the month it became mine. Nevertheless, it was a card I instantly had to have and knew I would end up spending way more money on than I should because of its sheer awesomeness.Where to start...
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Carl Crawford is
participating in baseball-related activities, but he still has a ways to go in
his recovery from Tommy John surgery he underwent in August. Even so, the
veteran is confident that he’ll be ready by Opening Day, according to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com.
While Crawford believes he’ll be ready by the start of the regular season...
PHOENIX Clayton Kershaw is open to negotiating a new contract with the Dodgers but doesnt want the talks to continue beyond spring training.
I dont think Im going to let it go into the season, he said.
Kershaw reported to the Dodgers spring training facility Tuesday with the teams other pitchers and catchers.
He said he and the team still havent opened negotiations. Kershaw is...
Coming off an elbow injury and eyeing a starting job for the Los Angeles Dodgers this season, P Chad Billingsley told reporters on Tuesday that he’s not concerned about his elbow injury heading into this season. Billingsley has been battling a torn ligament in his elbow and opted not to have Tommy John surgery this offseason. The pitcher instead chose platelet-rich injections over...
PHOENIX The most expensive team in baseball history will start to assemble Tuesday, when pitchers and catchers report to the Dodgers' Arizona spring-training complex.
The Dodgers have a projected opening-day payroll of 230 million and a roster that includes a dozen former All-Stars.
Several of these players were acquired in the middle of last season, which ended with a shocking...
We all knew that Carl Crawford didn't handle Boston well. Sure, some of his struggles were injury related, but you could see it in his performance and body language that it just wasn't working. Today Carl talked a little more about it to Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times:
One of only a handful of position players to already report to camp, Crawford is slowly rebuilding his...
The 2013 MLB Fan Cave contest is well under way for its third season. Last month, Major League Baseball revealed it’s list of the top 50 candidates out of the tens of thousands of submissions.
Every team has at least one representative, but this isn’t about them. This is about the Dodgers, their fans and more importantly their fanatics. This is about having as many Dodger fans...
