Harrison: Trade possible if Rangers sign Oswalt

The Rangers met with Roy Oswalt on Monday and the two sides "had a very good meeting," according to the right hander's agent, Bob Garber. While adding the 34-year-old would strengthen an already very good rotation it would also force the Rangers to make a move. With Colby Lewis, Derek Holland, Yu Darvish, Neftali Feliz and Matt Harrison, the Rangers already have at least five quality starters entering spring training. If Oswalt chose to play in Arlington for the right price, Harrison would likely be the odd man out, meaning either a move to the bullpen or a trade to another club. Harrison, who was a guest on 103.3's The Ben and Skin Show KESN-FM on Tuesday, said the addition of Oswalt could lead to the 26-year-old left hander asking for a trade. "That could be an option," Harrison said. "I feel like I proved myself last year, that I could be a consistent starter in the big leagues. I'm not saying the bullpen is a bad thing but I think I'm better suited for the rotation because pretty much at the beginning of the game I'm a little bit of a slow starter and I kind of acclimate as the game goes on." Harrison went 14-9 with 126 strikeouts in 30 starts last season. He started five games during the postseason, going 1-2 with both losses coming in the World Series. The former Atlanta Braves prospect, who the Rangers acquired in the trade that sent Mark Teixeira to Atlanta, is well aware of the Oswalt rumors. He said his agent has kept him updated on the process and the two spoke about it as recently as Monday. "It doesn't affect me at all," Harrison said. "I'm not really worried about what they're doing with that. That's up to them what they want to do at the end of spring training. But my goal and my focus is on being a starter." Being left off the playoff roster in 2010 was one of the motivational tools that worked for Harrison last year. And it sounds like he will continue to use that as motivation to make the starting rotation entering the 2012 season. "I think that really turned my career around for me and I made sure that wasn't going to happen again," Harrison said. "I'm not going to let it happen again this year.
