The Milwaukee Brewers have selected the contract of catcher and first baseman Blake Lalli from Triple-A Nashville, filling the void on the roster created by placing left-hander Chris Narveson on the 15-day disabled list earlier in the day.
To clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Lalli, the Brewers moved first baseman Corey Hart to the 60-day disabled list.
The Brewers need a first baseman on the roster with the rash of injuries that have hit the team, but none were on the 40-man roster. A downside of shifting Hart to the 60-day disabled list is a bit of a delay in his return from knee surgery.
Hart's time on the disabled list is backdated from March 31, meaning he will be eligible to play for the Brewers on May 30, about two weeks later than Hart and the Brewers had hoped.
