Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Jeremy Hellickson is typically in control and command, having been arguably the team's most consistent starter.

However, Hellickson knew pretty quickly he was off Friday night against the Miami Marlins, when he walked a career-high seven batters in just 4 1/3 innings. It was nearly as many walks as Hellickson racked up through five starts combined in May (nine).

"I had no idea where the ball was going," Hellickson said. "It was not a good feeling out there."

But Hellickson battled, wiggling in and out of jams in the Rays' 5-1 win over Miami at Marlins Park.

"Helly had really good stuff, but the command just wasn't there of any of his pitches," manager Joe Maddon said. "But the bullpen was fantastic."

The star of the game was ex-Marlins reliever Burke Badenhop, who relieved Hellickson in the fifth and promptly got John Buck to ground into an inning-ending double play.

"That's what I'm here to do, get the ground ball," Badenhop said, who got the win by pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
