Jason Heyward boasts a 1.136 OPS over his last 14 games.
If you’re a Braves fan, there’s plenty of bad news to go around. They’re in 3rd place. They’ve struggled somewhat of late, just 3-7 in their last 10 games. The bullpen hasn’t been the dominant force it was expected to be. Jurrjens struggled so badly in April that he’s spent the remainder of the season up ‘til now at AAA. Young lefty starter Mike Minor has an ERA over 6.00. Brian McCann is hitting .234 with a .721 OPS. Freddie Freeman’s hitting .247 with a .295 OBP and a .733 OPS. And of course, they just lost their young ace Brandon Beachy to a season-ending elbow injury.
But for those who prefer to focus on the positive, there’s plenty of good news as well.
• First of all, despite all that has gone wrong, they’re still 5 games over .500, just 3.5 games out of first place in the NL East and only a half-game behind the Mets for one of the two NL Wild Card slots.
• The Braves are 3rd in the NL in runs scored, and a Jason Heywa
BEST OF MAXIM
Last week Atlanta Braves right-hander Brandon Beachy was on top of the world. He was enjoying a breakout season, but now his career is in jeopardy.
The 25-year-old Beachy was put on the 15-day disabled list Sunday a day after leaving a start early with a sore right elbow. Today Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez announced that Beachy would undergo Tommy John surgery after getting a...
Atlanta Braves pitcher Brandon Beachy, who is tied for the Major League lead in ERA, had successful Tommy John surgery on Thursday and is expected to be out of action for about a year. Dr. James Andrews, who performed the operation, had decided on Wednesday that Beachy would not be able to avoid surgery on the partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. Beachy...
NEW YORK (AP) -- Jason Heyward hit two of a record nine homers at the new Yankee Stadium and the Atlanta Braves outslugged the New York Yankees for a 10-5 victory in the sweltering heat Wednesday.
Freddie Freeman, Martin Prado, Heyward and David Ross all connected off Phil Hughes (7-6) to build a 6-1 lead on a sticky, 94-degree afternoon.
Michael Bourn stole what might've been...
Martin Prado's versatility got a workout while both third baseman Chipper Jones (sore left knee) and first baseman Freddie Freeman (swollen left index finger) were out with their injuries.
Prado is Jones' primary backup, but he replaced Freeman at first base twice versus the Orioles last weekend and in the first game of the weekday series against the Yankees. To no one&...
This is exactly what Jair Jurrjens needed.
In turn, this is exactly what the Braves wanted to see from Jurrjens.
And it would have been tough to find anyone who could have predicted this kind of a performance from a guy who spent the past eight weeks in minor league exile.
I thought he would get rocked and rolled and be gone by the third inning.
But there was Jurrjens on Friday...
Jair Jurrjens made an impressive return to the majors by limiting the Boston Red Sox to one run and three hits, leading the Atlanta Braves to a 4-1 win on Friday night.
Jurrjens, an All-Star last season when he topped the Braves with 13 wins, worked 7 2-3 innings and left after allowing an RBI double by Daniel Nava that drove in Will Middlebrooks, who led off the eighth with a double...
Jason Heyward has teased and taunted us with his talent for more than two years.
He can hit home runs that are tracked on radar.
He can outrun line drives to his left, right, in front of him or over his head.
He can throw out any runner at any base.
He can't leap tall buildings in a single bound, but his jumping ability and long arms have been known to snare balls destined...
The Braves pounded five home runs in their victory over the Yankees on Wednesday, but they were hit harder by the news that Brandon Beachy will need Tommy John surgery.
Beachy and the organization were optimistic that surgery wouldn't be needed, but remained realistic in the fact that the ligament tear in his right elbow likely would have to be repaired.
Word came down late...
The Game Score statistic was developed by Bill James as a way of giving pitchers a score for each game they pitch. A closer look at how the stat is calculated will be discussed later in this post. The statistic is a way to rate starting pitchers. The average starting pitching Game Score is 49 to 51 (depending on the year). This season's league average is 51. R.A. Dickey currently...
Welcome back, Meds!
I really love it when my friends invite me to come to the game with them. :) Sat in Jenna's spare season ticket seat on Friday, went to BP as usual...

Marteen is *always* working hard
Hey Mike, there's a ball there.
Pretty sure EO stretched in that direction on purpose.
Freddie's wrapped finger :(
I love it when we win against the Yankees. I love it when we win against the Yankees IN YANKEE STADIUM. This was a good series. :) The choice of verbs in a couple of these news service captions made me laugh. Enjoy...

That's the Braves telecast on Fox Sports South congratulating a team that's certainly not the Braves for winning a series in a place the Braves certainly weren't playing last night. Now, maybe you can pass this off as Fox Sports South getting their wires crossed with Fox Sports Florida or something like that. But... there are so many things wrong going on here,...
