Medlen recorded his fifth win on the year The Braves came out with a win in their first ever game at Kansas City’s, Kauffman Stadium.  The bats showed up again and led the Braves to a 4-3 victory on Tuesday night. The Royals wasted no time getting the scoring started.  Billy Butler, the Royals designated hitter, singled in the bottom of the 1st inning to score Eric Hosmer from second.  The Royals jumped on the Braves early with a 1-0 lead after the 1st inning. The score would stay that way until the 5th when both teams would put up runs. Jordan Schafer, starting in left field for a 3rd straight game, doubled down the right field line to score Chris Johnson and tie the game at 1. Jason Heyward followed Schafer’s double with one of his own.  Heyward’s double scored both Andrelton Simmons and Schafer.  The 2 RBI double by Heyward gave the Braves a 3-1 lead. The lead for the Braves would be short lived as the Royals would answer in their portion of the 5th.  With Alcides Escobar on 1st,...

Atlanta Braves outfielder Jordan Schafer is having an outstanding 2013 season.  Schafer has arguably been the most consistent Braves  position player, hitting .346 in April, .293 in May and .323 in June. In his quest to become a starter, Schafer nailed his resume to Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez‘s forehead Sunday afternoon against the Milwaukee Brewers, by going 4 for 5 with...

Ramiro Pena Will Have Season-Ending Surgery

The second opinion that Atlanta Braves utility infielder Ramiro Pena sought Wednesday, unfortunately said the same thing.   Pena has a torn labrum and will undergo season-ending surgery. The announcement was made after Wednesday’s 4-3 loss to the Royals in Kansas City. There has not been a timetable given as to when the surgery will take place and what facility or doctor will...

Three Cuts: Heyward powers Braves past Royals

In the club's first visit to Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, the Braves won their second game in a row, holding off the Royals 4-3 in a thriller. Craig Kimbrel came in to close the game in the ninth inning, but he walked the leadoff batter and gave up a hit to put runners on first and third with no outs. Then he struck out two and loaded the bases with an intentional walk of...

Pena, who hit .233.266.288 with two home...

Braves Mid-Season Top 20 Prospects

This is not MLB.com’s Atlanta Braves prospect list. This is my own list that I have compiled after watching Braves minor league games and keeping stats halfway through the season. I will put the # that MLB.com had them ranked preseason beside each pick, so you can see where these young Braves minor league players stack up.  For me, some players have hurt their prospect status...

Braves drop series to Brewers, hold ground in NL East

Brian McCann snapped the Braves’ consecutive shutouts in game 3 with a grand slam in the 1st inning. When baseball writers use the phrase “feast or famine” in baseball, they usually apply it to streaky players. However, the Atlanta Braves’ offense is as streaky collectively as the most streaky player in the game. Never has this “feast or famine” pattern been more obvious...

Braves' Ramiro Pena could require season-ending surgery

The Atlanta Braves recently placed infielder Ramiro Pena on the disabled list due to a sore shoulder. Now, Pena is slated to get a second opinion on his ailing shoulder, which could require season-ending surgery, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com. At this point, the Braves haven't revealed the first opinion Pena received when he was examined on Friday. Bowman notes that...

Three Cuts: Gordon, Royals walk off against Braves

The Braves' road woes continue as the Royals registered a walk-off hit in a 4-3 win at Kauffman Stadum. Here are three observations from the game: 1. The Braves' came back, but Alex Gordon spoiled the fun Per their 2013 custom, the Braves allowed the Royals to build an early lead before their offense got things going. If that doesn't sound familiar, you haven't...
