Now we see a trend starting to develop with another pitcher at four: Daniel Corcino. The 5-foot-11, 205-pound, right hander was signed as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2008. In 2011, he jumped onto the scene pitching for Dayton and posted a 3.42 ERA & 1.16 WHIP. In 139.1 innings pitched, he struckout 156 batters with a decent walk rate of 2.2 per nine innings. This past year, he made the jump to Double-A Pensacola and posted some odd numbers. In the 143.1 innings he pitched, Corcino saw his ERA actually drop to 3.01 despite his WHIP going up to 1.22 due to a spike in his walk rate from 2.2 per nine innings to over 4. The logical conclusion was that he was missing more bats. Well, yes and no. His hit rate dropped from 8.3 per nine innings to 7.0, which should lead to strikeouts increasing, but Corcino's K rate actually dropped going...
