Aging right-hander, Hiroki Kuroda, will remain in the majors and test out the free-agent waters.

WEEI via NBP Tracker

...multiple media outlets in Japan are reporting that free agent pitcher Hiroki Kuroda has informed the Hiroshima Carp that he intends to pitch in the Major Leagues in 2012. The report also passes along news from Chugoku Shimbun that Kuroda intends to decide on his destination for ’12 “within the next couple of days.”

The Red Sox have shown signs of interest recently, but they may not want to add his price tag to the payroll. Rob Bradford noted that Kuroda is expected to sign a deal with his next team worth  $12-$13 million.

I would be surprised if Kuroda does end up in Boston. In his 4 MLB seasons (114 starts), he is 41-46, with a 3.45 ERA. Kuroda did exceed the 200-inning mark with 202 IP last season. My point is, he 37 in February and will be looking for $12 million, minimum. I understand they did express interest, but the Sox may low-ball him, probably insult him, and we'll move on to the next player the Sox won't sign.
