Found January 25, 2013 on Mets Merized Online:
What I love most about Zack Wheeler and Matt Harvey is their incredible determination and confidence. Each of them possess a similar swagger and they both exactly know what they want and go after it. They pair that confidence with a professionalism you don’t see very often in players so young. I’m sure you caught the comments Harvey made earlier this week about wanting to win and becoming the ace of the Mets. In similar fashion Wheeler weighed in with this gem on Wednesday: “I want to prove myself. I want to go out there, try to make the choice difficult for them, just compete. I mean, wherever they want to send me, that’s fine. I want to go compete wherever that is. I’m going to try to get better wherever they send me. I don’t care.” I never remember Mike Pelfrey, Jon Niese or any other Mets pitching prospects of the past, carrying themselves the way Wheeler and Harvey do. I love that swagger. * * * * * * * * After an entire day of drama over Michael Bourn, the Mets, and the first ...

Breaking Down the Justin Upton Trade to the Braves

We’ve been hearing a lot of Justin Upton rumors over the last two years. The Pirates were involved in some of those discussions around the trade deadline. Today Upton was dealt to the Atlanta Braves as part of a seven player deal. Here is the breakdown of the trade, including their trade values. Atlanta Gets Justin Upton – Upton is owed $38.5 M over the next three years. I put...

Deal is Done: Justin Upton To the Braves; With Prado Exit, Braves' Lineup Weaker Than 2012

The Braves pulled it off. Justin Upton will be joining his brother B.J. Upton in the Braves' outfield in 2013. Surprisingly though, the Braves traded their would-be third baseman Martin Prado to the Arizona Diamondbacks to complete the deal. Here's how the deal breaks down, courtesy MLB.com's Mark Bowman and...

Justin Upton, the Braves, and their Strikeouts

As of Thursday, an awful lot of people are happy. The Diamondbacks are happy, because they were able to move Justin Upton for value. The Braves are happy, because they were able to get Justin Upton for a good but not outstanding package. And Justin Upton is happy, because he gets to go play in Atlanta, instead of Seattle or somewhere else. Upton was hoping for a destination like...

Weekend At Bournie's

It's a Friday night, and I'm in front of the computer thinking about Michael Bourn. What's wrong with me? Don't spend too much time thinking about that. And don't spend too much time thinking about Bourn in a Mets uniform. For I have two more observations on the future disappointment known as "Michael Bourn to the Mets Rumors": You would think that...

What Arizona got for Upton - besides Prado

The Atlanta Braves traded four young players along with third baseman Martin Prado to acquire outfielder Justin Upton and third baseman Chris Johnson.   A quick look at each of the youngsters:   RHP Randall Delgado: The pitcher whom the Chicago Cubs wanted to acquire for two months of right-hander Ryan Dempster last season before a proposed deal collapsed.   Delgado, who turns...

Other possible homes for Jason Kubel

There are reports that teams are stepping up in their chase for Arizona Diamondbacks RF Justin Upton. Though I may be proven wrong, I still think Upton will end up remaining with Arizona because of the high price tag General Manager Kevin Towers has on him. Based on what the Seattle Mariners offered, it is difficult to see either Atlanta, Tampa Bay, Texas or Baltimore parting with...

Braves Could Be Close To Landing Justin Upton, Too

The Phillies' division rivals have landed several big names this offseason already. While the Phillies have added Delmon Young and Michael Young, the Phillies have seen B.J. Upton, Rafael Soriano, Denard Span, and Adam LaRoche added to division rivals. The next one may be Justin Upton, whom the Arizona Diamondbacks...

Sources: D-backs closer to dealing outfielder

The Arizona Diamondbacks have talked about trading an outfielder for virtually the entire offseason. Their efforts appear to be finally reaching a conclusion. The D-Backs are weighing an offer for right fielder Justin Upton from the Atlanta Braves, according to major-league sources. But they renewed contact with the Orioles on Wednesday about a possible deal for left fielder Jason...

Just John Lannan working out with John Mayberry Jr.

And so, while you're sitting around dreaming up silver linings after the Braves completed a trade for Justin Upton earlier today which leaves them with an outfield of Upton, Upton, and Heyward, enjoy the photo above of John Lannan working out with new Phillies teammate John Mayberry Jr. Yeah, it'll sure be strange the first time Lannan takes the mound at Nationals Park...
