2013 Home Run Derby captains David Wright and Robinson Cano have picked their teams for this year's event at Citi Field next weekend...well, mostly. Cano will reportedly announce the final member of his four man team tomorrow. Joining Wright on the NL squad will be Bryce Harper of the Nationals and Rockies teammates Carlos Gonzalez and Michael Cuddyer, while Chris Davis and Prince Fielder join Cano's AL contingent. The choices are...interesting. Davis and Gonzalez were logical selections by the captains, since they lead their respective league in longballs. I also have no issue with Fielder, who has tremendous power, but has a career-low ISO this year and is coming off of a season with his lowest home run total in a year since his rookie year of 2006. I can also nod approvingly for Harper's selection, due to his absurd raw power that has opened eyes since he was a teenager. Then, there's Michael Cuddyer. The 34-year old is having a great year for the Rockie...

Cano, Nunez dance with hospitalized kids

Robinson Cano and Eduardo Nunez tried their best to copy dance moves from an interactive game during a visit to Ronald McDonald House in New York City on Tuesday. The teammates were there with other Yankees players for Hope Week. The Yankees' current shortstop-to-second base combo couldn't keep up with the jubilant kids doing what looked like a mix of a Polka and the...

Should the Yankees Re-Sign Robbie Cano?

"Did they get a fair price for Rickey Henderson? It's kind of like if you're an art collector and you have the Mona Lisa, what's a fair price for it? The idea in building a championship team is to acquire players like Rickey Henderson. It's a sad day when you have to give one away." Bill James wrote that in 1985 after the Oakland Athletics traded away Rickey...

Jay-Z has no business in sports

Let's hope Kevin Durant and Robinson Cano learn a lesson from Magna Carta Holy Grail, Jay-Z's latest CD. Let's hope they notice that the CEO of Roc Nation Sports did not seek 16 or eight bars from King James, Black Mamba, Melo or Birdman. You also won't find CP3, The Truth or AK47 on any of Magna Carta's hooks. There are no beats from Captain Jack, Metta World...

Home Run Derby Captains Select Their Teams Minus One Player

David Wright and Robinson Cano, home run derby captains of their respective leagues, have chosen their teams. Except, Cano has left one off.  Apparently he could not decide on his last player, or perhaps he is waiting for an answer from said player, but he will announce the last selection tomorrow. Here is a Tweet from Buster Olney with the participants: NL HR Derby team: Wright...

Yankees’ Cano and Rivera Named to the All-Star Team

While the Yankees might have quite a few all-stars on the DL this season — Jeter, A-Rod, Granderson, Teixeira and Youkilis — they’ll still be represented like every other team. Robinson Cano and Mariano Rivera will be the Yankee representatives at Citi Field this year. Cano, also the American League Captain for the Home Run Derby, will be making his 5th appearance in the Mid...

Captains Announce Home Run Derby Participants, Chris Davis And Carlos Gonzalez Among Participants

Team captains Robinson Cano and David Wright have announced the members of their 2013 Home Run Derby squads, and the two will have to beat out a talented group of sluggers if they plan on making it to the finals. Cano picked Orioles first baseman Chris Davis and Tigers designated hitter Prince Fielder as members of the American League team. Davis is having a career year, blasting...

Triple Play All-Star Edition: Robinson Cano, Jim Leyland, Bruce Bochy

Welcome to the All-Star edition of the Triple Play. This time around, we take a look at my ultimate All-Star team, the most ridiculous decision any manager has made or will make all season, my suggestion for All-Star Game rosters, and more. Off we go: Who’s Hot? Robinson Cano, New York Yankees We discussed Cano in last week’s Triple Play (mainly as a basis of comparison for...
