If only baseball cards weren’t so overproduced in the late ’80s and early ’90s. Does anyone know how much a box full of 1992 Ray Lankford cards are going for these days? The most famous baseball card in the world, the Honus Wagner T206, sold for $2.1 million on Friday at the Goldin Auctions’ showcase, according to the New York Post. The card sold is the “jumbo” version because the edges are 1/16 inches larger than standard cards. Only 50 to 100 copies of the card exist because the hall of fame shortstop had it pulled from American Tobacco Company packaging either because he didn’t want to encourage kids to smoke or because he wasn’t happy with the compensation he was receiving for the cards. If it was for the latter, imagine how Wagner would react if he learned his cards were being sold for $2 million dollars because of his decision to pull them. The buyer of the $2.1 million card is unknown. That specific card had previously sold for $1.62 million in 2008. Photo via Facebook/Honus Wagner
