Monday: Seattle Mariners 11 Boston Red Sox 4 Felix Hernandez 9-4 W Jon Lester 8-5 L Raul Ibanez was the star of the game as he hit his 22nd home run to help King Felix win his ninth game in the Mariners' 11-4 victory over the Red Sox on Monday night. Ibanez's home run broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth. It was his seventh go-ahead home run this season and extended his hitting streak to 13 games. Justin Smoak had three hits, including two doubles, and two RBIs for Seattle. The Red Sox losing streak reached three games as Lester struggled once again with a weak lineup in Seattle. Tuesday: Boston Red Sox 11 Seattle Mariners 8 Craig Breslow 3-2 W Blake Beavan 0-2 L Koji Uehara Save 6 Jackie Bradley hit a tiebreaking home run, Shane Victorino slugged the last of Boston's five long balls and the Red Sox snapped a three-game skid with an 11-8 win over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night. (Thearon Henderson/Getty Images)This time, Jon Lester was respectable. Six and one-third innings, three earned runs. The problem is we have bigger expectations of Lester—he's supposed to be our 1A or 1B ace. He's not even close. And, to his credit, he knows it. Said Lester after the 3-0 loss to the A's, "A loss is a loss, It doesn't matter how well you'...
The following piece is on a Major League Baseball player of Cuban descent, who has been unbelievable the past several weeks, but will not be part of the 2013 All-Star Game barring a last-minute change.
His name is not Yasiel Puig, but is nearly old enough to be his father. No, I’m talking about Raul Ibanez, who is going absolutely nuts in his third stint as a Seattle Mariner...
It’s been a Jekyll and Hyde season for Jon Lester, so it’s important to take advantage of his good days. The Red Sox didn’t do so on Saturday.
Lester, who was a model of consistency from 2008 to 2011 before a rocky 2012 campaign, started 2013 in impressive fashion. Since beginning the year 6-0, however, Lester has become a symbol of inconsistency, as there’s simply no telling...
SEATTLE (AP) -- Raul Ibanez homered twice to give him 24 this season and the Seattle Mariners set a team home-run record in an 8-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night.
The 41-year-old Ibanez hit a fourth-inning blast 438 feet into the right-field second deck and a 421-foot shot to center in the seventh. He has the fourth most homers in a season for a 41-year-old...

A popular band from Seattle sang, “run and tell all of the angels, this could take all night.” Well tonight in Seattle, the Angels were possibly thinking that this game could take all night to finally end, as the Seattle Mariners beat the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 8-3.
The Mariners put a nice eight to nothing cushion for Joe Saunders to work with into the seventh inning which...

If we learned anything from the book and film Moneyball, it’s that the teams that win games are the teams that score runs. The Red Sox didn’t do any scoring last night, held in check by the notorious A. J. Griffin, so they copped a loss.
I’m not gonna dwell too much on it, other than to say despite the loss, Jon Lester put in a decent performance giving up just three runs...
I can deal with the Red Sox loss from last night, because it came with some indications that Jon Lester might be getting back on track. Lester pitched a quality start, and while he was tagged for the loss, the fact that he made it through 6.1 innings and allowed just three runs gives me hope for the rest of the season.
I suppose it’s appropriate for the final start before...
8:03 p.m.: Reliever Matt Thornton, who was acquired from the White Sox on Friday, has joined the team. To make room for Thornton, Boston has optioned Steven Wright to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Wright will head back down, but it’s not before he left a mark. The knuckleballer pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings in relief in Seattle on Thursday while earning his first major league win. In the...
