MLB News: The Houston Astros, finding themselves 7.5 games back in the division just 15 games into the  year decided to shake up their roster in hopes of making a better first impression during their first season in the American League. They purchased the contract of third baseman Brandon Laird from Triple-A Oklahoma City, optioned first baseman Brett Wallace down to Oklahoma City and then designated pitcher Xavier Cedeno for assignment. Laird, who was tearing the cover off of the ball to start the season, will find himself bouncing back and forth from first base to third base, providing depth on the Houston Bench. Wallace, while still in the organization, is being soured on. A former top talent, he was batting just .042 on the season. Cedeno should get some feelers from the waiver wire and his future is unknown. Fantasy Ramifications: Laird has minimal value in a American League only fantasy format or dynasty, but other than that he should remain waiver wire fodder. The post Hous...

Martinez sprains right knee against Indians

Houston left fielder J.D. Martinez has left Friday night's game against the Indians after spraining his right knee while batting in the fourth inning. Martinez was injured on a check swing. His knee buckled and he fell to the ground in pain. He remained on the ground for a couple of minutes while Astros trainers attended to him. He was then helped to his feet and hobbled with...

Astros bullpen coach injures leg, knee throwing BP

Houston Astros bullpen coach Jeff Murphy sustained injuries to his left leg and knee when a protective screen fell on him before Wednesday's game against the Oakland Athletics. He pulled himself out from under the screen and tried to walk away but fell back...

A Season of Change in Houston

Opening Day has come and gone at Minute Maid Park in Houston. The Astros won 8-3 over their new divisional foe, the Texas Rangers. Yes, that’s right: the Astros are now in the American League, and a formerly neutral feeling between these two teams means so much more now. This is the biggest change that has happened to the Astros this season; however, change, in many forms, is...

Indians-Astros Preview

The Houston Astros and Cleveland Indians have both gotten off to lackluster starts. So have the starters for Friday night's series opener. Lucas Harrell and former Astro Brett Myers each seek their first win of the season while helping their respective clubs snap lengthy losing streaks. After losing 213 games the past two seasons, Houston (4-11) was hardly expected to be competitive...

Next 10 games will test the A’s

The A’s came out of Wednesday’s series-sweeping over the Astros with their 12th win of the season, good enough for the most in the AL. The A’s didn’t even register their 12th win until May 1 last season. So, it’s pretty evident Oakland is off to hot start, not just compared to last season, but over the last few decades of the club’s history. We figured the A’s would...
