The Reds have designated for assignment 28 y/o right handed reliever Todd Coffey. In 2006 for the Reds in that Band box of a stadium Coffey went 6-7 with a 3.58 ERA and converted 8 of 12 saves in 78 games. The four year veteran has struggled for the past two years and after dropping significant weight lost some velocity. He can be claimed off waivers by any team to help them down the stretch but won't be eligible for the post season. Change of scenery guy who might be helpful in the long run.....You knew when Todd Coffey didn't get a September call he was probably done as a Red. He could pass waivers. But he's a classic example of a guy who needs a fresh start. He has the stuff to be successful, but the last two years have been rough, really rough. source Cincinnati.com
