Found September 24, 2013 on The Sports Post:
On Sunday, the Oakland A’s topped the Minnesota Twins 11-7 for their 93rd win of the season and clinched first place in the AL West for the second year in a row.  For the first time since a run of four straight playoff appearances ended in 2003, the A’s have reached the postseason play in back-to-back years. The Texas Rangers, preseason division favorites for many, lost to the Kansas City Royals, dropping their record to 84-71. After leading the division for a good portion of the year, including Sept. 1, a 5-15 month has put Texas in a battle for the Wild Card. For the second straight season, the Rangers have collapsed down the stretch. While these two teams did not look evenly matched on April 1, 2013, despite Oakland’s second half push last year, nobody picked the A’s as the superior team on April 1, 2012. With the Rangers following up back-to-back World Series appearances with two straight September collapses, what happened in the AL West to change these team's fortunes? ...

All @arios51 needed to hit for the cycle was a triple and he got it! http://t.co/u3Ub0T5Bwl — MLB (@MLB) September 24, 2013 Pretty impressive for Alex Rios to pick up the cycle on his first four at bats. He finished his night 4-for-4 with three runs and four RBI. He joins Mike Trout and Brandon Barnes as the only players to hit for the cycle this season. Just an all around nice...

The missing...

Rangers, Cruz both failed key tests

The following two sentences, spoken by Texas Rangers manager Jon Daniels to USA Today, are undeniably true. "We'd be in better shape if he wasn't suspended. It's a choice Nelson made." Daniels is talking about the 50-game suspension that Nelson Cruz accepted on Aug. 5 for violating baseball's drug policy. If Cruz had appealed, he could have continued playing...

Alex Rios of the Texas Rangers has hit for the cycle against Houston in his first four at-bats. Rios completed the cycle with a triple to right-center field in the sixth inning Monday night. He made it to third base standing up without a throw. The right fielder thought about going for third on a two-run double in the first inning, but held up about 25 feet beyond the bag at second...

The Texas Rangers Preview Against the Houston Astros

The Texas Rangers enter Monday 1.5 games out of the Wild Card standings. I am sure that everyone has heard enough whining about how the team has fallen apart in the last month and now they might not even have a shot a playoffs, so I am not going to focus on the negative. Rather, what really matters is that Texas has seven more games this season and they are all in Arlington. The...

Rangers tried to acquire Justin Upton from Braves in July

Buried in this article by Bob Nightengale of USA Today about Nelson Cruz's absence hurting the Rangers is this little nugget about how the Rangers tried to solve their outfield woes in July - by trying to trade for Braves left fielder Justin Upton. The Rangers, trying to solve that power void, tried to pull off a blockbuster deal for Atlanta Braves outfielder Justin Upton before...

We haven’t changed our attitude.” Rios backed up his words a few hours later providing a...

Alex Rios Does His Part for the Rangers and Hits for the Cycle

Well, the bad news for Rangers fans is that their team is currently out of the playoffs and need some help from other teams in order to make it in. Rumors: Rangers offered Matt Garza, others to Braves for Justin Upton at trade deadline

The biggest trade this season was Matt Garza being dealt to the Texas Rangers. There was a trade offer that would have made that deal look like a minor one and it actually involved Matt Garza. The Texas Rangers, after losing Nelson Cruz to a 50-game suspension, offered Matt Garza, Joe Nathan and David Murphy to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for power hitting outfielder Justin...
