The Sox lost 2-of-3 in Toronto in mid-August.The Sox won game 1 in 11 innings by way of a 2-run single off the bat of Shane Victorino. That was followed by another extra-inning game, which the Jays won in 10. Game 3 was sort of a pitchers duel between Peavy and Buehrle, with Buehrle coming out on top. Both Sox losses were by 1 run.
Laser Show: Clay Buchholz
Goin' with a pitcher again. I've said it before, primarily while drunk, that Clay Buchholz will not lose a game this season. I am going to stick by that statement. I think I jinxed him.
Pitch Around: Edwin Encarnacion & Jose Bautista
Just look up the history.
Don't Fall Behind: R.A. Dickey & Mark Buerhle
R.A. Dickey is 4-0 in his last 5 starts, and Buerhle pitched one hell of a game against the Sox in their last meeting. We don't need those guys shutting down the Sox now.
How we see it goin' down
The Sox will have little issues with the Jays this weekend, will clinch the division tonight, and come away with the sweep. .

There might be some Red Sox position
players and pitchers scaling back on playing time and catching up on a little
rest after John Farrell’s bunch clinched their first AL East crown in six years
BOSTON — There wasn’t much doubt before. Now, there shouldn’t be any doubt.
Jon Lester turned in another ace-like effort Friday while guiding the Red Sox to a 6-3 victory over the Blue Jays and their first AL East crown since 2007. In the process, Lester made it abundantly clear — through his performance — that he should and almost certainly will take the ball when the...
(Getty Images)Clay Buchholz lost for the first time this year and the Red Sox found their best record position in serious trouble in a 4-2 loss to Toronto on Saturday. Buchholz—who started the season 9-0—fell to 11-1 with a 6-inning performance in which he gave up just two earned runs. Most of the damage was done with two outs and nobody on in the fourth—when the Jays crossed...
It took until the end of September, but Clay Buchholz was finally handed his first loss of the season on Saturday night.
The right-hander surrendered three runs on six hits in six innings of work as the Red Sox fell to the Blue Jays 4-2. After throwing about 15-20 more pitches than his last outing, Buchholz reiterated that he is back to full health and he said he felt good out on...
The Red Sox went about their business as usual after clinching a playoff spot Thursday night. Expect a bit more emotion if they knock off the Blue Jays on Friday.
A win over Toronto — or a Tampa Bay loss — will clinch the American League East for the Sox, marking just their second division title in the last 18 years.
Boston will be going for consistency in the series opener with...
Nothing had come easily for the Red Sox all season long so it was appropriate that on the night when they were in position to wrap up their first division title in six seasons the clinching victory wasn't routine either.
The Red Sox hit into three double plays and stranded runners in every inning but two before breaking the game open in the seventh then holding off the Toronto...
There was no party. No champagne. No jumping in pools. Just a couple of hugs, handshakes and high-fives.
That’s how the Boston Red Sox celebrated clinching a postseason berth Thursday night after beating the Orioles, 3-1. Word around the Sox clubhouse is their next win, which would clinch the AL East division crown, will set off a much bigger...
BOSTON — In two weeks, there will be no room for moral victories. Until then, it’s fair game for the Red Sox to draw positives from losses.
The Red Sox dropped a 4-2 decision to the Blue Jays in the middle game of the teams’ three-game set at Fenway Park on Saturday. Clay Buchholz suffered his first loss of 2013, and Mark Buehrle minimized Boston’s chances during his six...
Clay Buchholz lost for the first time this season, and the AL East champion Boston Red Sox fell to Mark Buehrle and the Toronto Blue Jays 4-2 Saturday night.
A day after the Red Sox clinched the division title, they lost for just the sixth time in 21 games.
Buchholz (11-1) gave up two earned runs on six hits and two walks in six innings. He had pitched 11 scoreless innings in his...
The Red Sox will send Jon Lester against Esmil Rogers tonight in pursuit of the American League East crown. On Saturday night, Clay Buchholz will face off against Mark Buehrle, while Felix Doubront will match up against knuckleballer R.A. Dickey on Sunday afternoon.
Despite being saddled with his first loss of the season, Clay Buchholz had a lot to feel good about on Saturday night.
Buchholz felt good physically, and he felt his command improving from his last game against the Yankees. With the exception of the fourth inning where things “snowballed,” as the right-hander put it, Buchholz tossed a good game. John Farrell agreed and said...
Team ZZ-Bop did it. They went from last to first against all odds and all punditry. They captured the hearts of fans with beards and bravado. Tonight, they finished the deal with Jon Lester firing seven solid innings to capture his 100th career win in the 6-3 victory. They did it with Koji Uehara getting five outs to close it out. They got it from Mike Carp knocking in three of the...
The Boston Red Sox clinched the AL East title on Friday night, getting seven strong innings from Jon Lester to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 6-3 and eliminate Tampa Bay from the division race.
One night after securing their first playoff appearance since 2009, the Red Sox added their first division title since `07. Boston entered the night with a magic number of one -- meaning the...
5:02 p.m.: John Farrell said Friday that Ryan Dempster will pitch out of the bullpen for the remainder of the season.
4:58 p.m.: Jacoby Ellsbury took part in baseball activities Friday for the first time since being diagnosed with a navicular bone fracture in his right foot. He threw and hit off a tee, which is an encouraging sign. There’s still no timetable for Ellsbury’s return...
