The Orioles swept the Sox in Baltimore, which was part of the eight game losing streak that ended the season. The Orioles won the season series 13-5.
Meanwhile Ellsbury is showing how dangerous he can be as a leadoff hitter, reaching base to start the game in the past three and also racked up four steals as well.
Pitch Around: Chris Davis
Davis is the hottest hitter in the Majors right now, homering in his first four games of the year and has already driven in 17 runs this season. Despite his lack of success at Fenway in his career, (.227 AVG, .278 SLG in 24 games), I would hope that the Sox pitching staff errs on the side of caution with Davis at the plate.
Don't Fall Behind: Wei-Yin Chen
The Taiwanese lefty had a good year against the Sox last season: 2-0 with a 2.50 ERA in three starts. The Sox did manage to get 21 hits off of him but Chen was able to work out of a lot of jams. Chen does have a habit of giving up the long ball as he allowed 29 home runs last season so the Sox can make him pay for putting runners on base.
How we see it goin' down
The offense bounced back pretty well from Saturday's two hit performance by destroying RA Dickey and the Jays bullpen, so I'm not too worried about the offense. It's Ryan Dempster & Felix Doubront that has me concerned. Both of them had shaky first starts of the year and if the Sox want to win the series, they need one of them to step up. Doubront has solid career numbers against the O's (3.13 ERA, 1.087 WHIP in six games) but has yet to beat them. He'll get it on Thursday as the Sox take two out of three.
BEST OF MAXIM
Clay Buchholz has become the best pitcher in the Red Sox rotation after years of disappointment
I never was a huge fan of Clay Buchholz. He started his Red Sox career with a no-hitter and every body who sort of followed the Boston Red Sox thought that they had an ace in the hole. Forget for a second that there have been plenty of middle of the road pitchers who have pitched no-hitters...
Daniel Nava hit a three run homer in the bottom of the seventh was all that Clay Buchholz needed as the Red Sox have won their third straight, beating the Orioles, 3-1.
It was a pitcher's duel between Buchholz and Wei-Yin Chen, as both of them only allowed a couple of singles and walks until the seventh when Dustin Pedroia started the rally with a single and Mike Napoli getting...
For those of you in search of a sneaky source of two-start pitchers for the coming week, consider your search over. This is the jackpot. Below are several pitchers available in many leagues that will help you dominate the competition for the next seven days. As the stats come in like hot cakes, just remember — you’re welcome.Clay Buchholz, BOSvs. BAL (Bruce Chen)vs. TB (Jeremy...

The Boston Red Sox, now winners of five of their first seven games, are cruising on the shoulders of their top two pitchers: Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz.
Is it too early for the Red Sox to give manager...
Jon Lester was the Red Sox’ Opening Day starter, and he’s considered the team’s ace in the minds of many. Clay Buchholz, the starter for Monday’s home opener, continues to match the southpaw step for step.
Buchholz tossed seven shutout innings against the Orioles on Monday. It marks the second straight outing Buchholz has gone seven innings, and he and Lester now hold a combined...
Clay Buchholz threw seven solid innings and Daniel Nava provided all the runs with a three-run homer to help the Boston Red Sox to a 3-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles in their 2013 home opener.

Clay Buchholz followed Jon Lester‘s strong performance Sunday with seven shutout innings of his own Monday afternoon, which bodes well for the Red Sox’ starting staff this year.
After sputtering last season, the starters will now be under the tutelage of John Farrell in Boston, which many onlookers theorized would result in a return to form that the Sox badly needed. With John...
The Red Sox kicked off their home schedule in a big way on Monday.
Fenway Park has been known to give the Red Sox a major home-field advantage over the years, but last season was much different, as Boston struggled mightily in front of the home crowd. Fenway was bumping on Monday, though, and it’s clear that this year’s team is already winning folks over.
And how could it not...
The Red Sox just completed their first week of the season, a 6 game road trip starting in New York and ending in Toronto. The team went 4-2 on the trip and return to Fenway for a 7 game home stand against Baltimore and then Tampa Bay.
Wei-Yin Chen vs Clay Buchholz
Buchholz had a great outing in his first start of the season in the Bronx. He went 7 strong innings allowing...

Daniel Nava hit a three-run homer, Clay Buchholz pitched seven shutout innings and the surprising Boston Red Sox won their ninth straight home opener, 3-1 over the Baltimore Orioles on Monday.
Nava broke open a scoreless duel between Buchholz (2-0) and Wei-Yin Chen (0-1) in the seventh inning with his second homer in two days. He hit a shot over the Green Monster in left after Dustin...
The First Pitch
Paul Maholm and Clay Buchholz followed up solid season debuts with excellent second starts yesterday. They each went seven innings, allowed no runs and got a win. As a result, their ownership percentages are on the rise. But should you hop on the bandwagon and add them? Yes and no.
Yes to Maholm. He’s obviously going to give up some runs at some point, but...
8 a.m. ET: We’re only seven games into a 162-game season, but Red Sox fans have to be pleased with their team’s performance so far.
The 5-2 start is Boston’s best since 2006, and the Sox have already taken two out of three games against division rivals in New York and Toronto. They’ll try to add a third team to that list Wednesday night when the Orioles visit Fenway Park...
The Red Sox did something they weren’t able to do much of last year; send the Fenway faithful home happy. In their home opener, the Red Sox defeated the Baltimore Orioles 3-1, behind a very strong outing by starter Clay Buchholz, 2-0, and a Daniel Nava 7th inning 3-run home run.
With the game scoreless in the 7th, and Buchholz done for the day, the Red Sox offense was able to get...
After going 4-2 on their season opening road trip, the Boston Red Sox return home for a seven-game homestand. They'll start off with the home opener this afternoon against the Baltimore Orioles at historic Fenway Park.
The Red Sox pregame show will start on NESN at 12 p.m. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on NESN in the Red Sox television...
