Last time

The Red Sox dropped 2 out of 3 in Texas exactly 2 weeks ago. The Sox got a great pitching performance from Buchholz in game 2 that lead to the only win of the series. The Sox sucked for the rest of the series.

This time

Laser Show: Adrian Gonzalez

Almost a guaranteed thing since the All-Star break. If the Sox are going to put up a fight in this series, they are going to need a huge contribution from Gonzalez.
Pitch Around: Adrian Beltre & Josh Hamilton

They didn't put up big numbers a couple of weeks ago, but that means nothing. Adrian is going to abuse the Green Monster and Josh Hamilton will torment right field, and possibly the wall. I hate when either of these two are at the plate.

Don't Fall Behind: Yu Darvish

The Red Sox have never seen him. Translation...He will dominate the Sox. Since coming to the MLB from Japan, he has not let the Rangers down. He can be beat and has been by teams like Cleveland and  Seattle (twice), so there is hope for the Red Sox. Darvish is in the top 10 in strikeouts with 145, averaging 10.2 per 9 innings, but does walk a lot of batters. Darvish is 4th in the majors in walks with 70 (5 per 9 innings). So the Sox have a chance to jump on his mistakes and mis-located pitches, as long as they don't strikeout while trying.

How we see it goin' down

There is no reason to believe that the Sox will win more than 1 game this series and that is a stretch. We don't know what we are going to get from Lester and Beckett and Cook has been stinkin' up the joint lately. One game might be a shootout and I'll give that one to the Sox.

Yu Darvish’s Bad Command Comparables

Last night, Yu Darvish took the mound against the Red Sox, and not surprisingly, he racked up a lot of walks and strikeouts. This is a common trend for Darvish, who has ended 39.6% of opposing plate appearances with a walk, hit batter, or a strikeout. Darvish is the kind of pitcher who succeeds or fails on his own, relying less on his defense than just about any other pitcher in...

Sox Offense Beats Up on Darvish in Win!

The Red Sox just came off a very disappointing series against the Twins and were set to face the red hot Rangers and their new phenom pitcher Yu Darvish.  The Sox had Aaron Cook on the mound who in his last few outings has started well, but ended the games by giving up homeruns and often.  So, would the Sox even have a chance?  They would and would end up winning with ease. Cook...

Jon Lester Displays Improvement on Mound but Lack of Run Support Hurts His Cause

BOSTON –– For five innings, Jon Lester was nailing his spots. The Red Sox pitcher was finally shaking his July woes, when he surrendered 25 total runs over four starts. And in Tuesday's 6-3 loss against Texas, Lester was nowhere near those struggles until the sixth and seventh innings. Had he received run support, the lefty may have escaped with the win. Instead, the loss...

Rangers-Red Sox Preview

The Texas Rangers may be comfortably leading the AL West, but that advantage could become greater if Yu Darvish can get back on track. Darvish attempts to win for just the second time in over a month and rebound from perhaps his worst performance of the year when the Rangers open a three-game set against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Monday night. Texas (63-44) is tied with...

Carl Crawford, Hot-Hitting Red Sox Look to Jump On Struggling Yu Darvish in Series Opener

On paper, the series-opening game between the Red Sox and Rangers is looking to be anything but a pitchers' duel. Starters Yu Darvish and Aaron Cook both enter Monday night's tilt in a bit of a funk. Darvish is just 1-3 with a 6.82 ERA and 20 walks in 31 2/3 innings over his last five starts. Cook, meanwhile, is 0-4 with a 5.79 ERA in his last five starts. The Sox have penciled...

Jon Lester, Ryan Dempster Enter Matchup With Wildly Different Experiences in Recent Run Support (Video)

Jon Lester and Ryan Dempster lived very different lives their last time out on the mound. Lester, on one hand, pitched great but was dealt a hard-luck loss. Dempster, on the other, got shelled but then bailed out by his teammates, earning a no-decision while the Rangers ultimately won. NESN Nation's Dan Duquette is rooting for Dempster's struggles to continue in the American...

Red Sox Angry With Umpire's Decision in the Eighth, Prompts Jon Lester to Deem It 'A Bad Call'

BOSTON -- The call infuriated Dustin Pedroia. During his last at-bat in the eighth inning of Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Rangers, Pedroia believed he offered a check swing when Rangers reliever Mike Adams fired a curveball. But first base umpire Paul Nauert disagreed, calling Pedroia out via strikeout. And it set Pedroia off on a tirade. The Red Sox second baseman walked halfway...

Darvish struggles against Red Sox in loss

BOSTON (AP) -- Dustin Pedroia had three of Boston's eight doubles, Aaron Cook pitched seven solid innings and the Red Sox beat the Texas Rangers 9-2 on Monday night. Jacoby Ellsbury and Carl Crawford each doubled twice and Adrian Gonzalez once as the Red Sox increased their major league high to 248 doubles, 35 more than the second-place New York Mets. And Crawford and Gonzalez...

Just When You Thought You Were Out...

The Red Sox received 7 strong innings from starting pitcher Aaron Cook and banged out 14 hits as they beat Texas 9-2 in the opener of a 3-game series against the Rangers at Fenway Park.Cook scattered 6 hits and allowed just 1 run; he struck out 2 and walked 3 batters. Junichi Tazawa pitched the 8th and 9th innings. He allowed a solo home run to former Red Sox 3rd baseman Adrian...

Franklin Morales Scheduled to Start Saturday, Aaron Cook's Turn Pushed Back as Bobby Valentine Shuffles Rotation

BOSTON -- The Red Sox rotation is still in flux. After Franklin Morales shined in Sunday's spot start and Aaron Cook rebounded from a string of subpar starts on Monday, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine will try to spread out the love. "I have him penciled in," Valentine said of Morales. "It's not in ink yet. [Cook] will miss the Cleveland series and be ready...

Afternoon Red Sox Mediocrity - 8/6

After losing three-of-four to the Minnesota Twins, the Boston Red Sox will close out their 10-game homestand starting tonight in the first game of a three-game with the Texas Rangers at historic Fenway Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. and will be broadcast on NESN in the Red Sox television market. If you live in the Rangers television market, you can catch the game...

2012 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix 8/8: Yesterday's game by game rundown

Seattle Mariners at Baltimore Orioles: Tough first inning for Jon Lester was dealing early.  Dempster also settled down and this turned into the pitcher’s duel I had hoped, but not expected. I trusted Lester against the scuffling Rangers and love him going forward. Dempster still scares me a tad, but he was good enough for the win in this one. Will Middlebrooks hit a three-run...

Recap: Inconsistency continues

(Photo by Jim Rogash/Getty Images) Well, we knew the Sox were not going to sweep the Rangers as their 2-game winning streak came to an end with a 6-3 loss to the Rangers. The game remained score-less until the 6th inning when Ian Kinsler singled in David Murphy, followed by a single from Hamilton that drove in Kinsler to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead. The Rangers scored 2 again in...

Red Sox News & Notes - 8/7

Is this the Boston Red Sox team we all expected this season? Or is this the Red Sox team that will get our hopes up only to dash them like teams of the past? And while we're at it, is this the Carl Crawford that the Red Sox expected to get when they signed him to a seven-year, $142 million deal? Crawford went 2-for-4 with three RBIs to help the Red Sox to a 9-2 win over the...
