Last time The Sox and Rays split a 4-game series last week in Tampa Bay. After winning the first two games the Sox were killed in game 3. Then, game 4 was a complete disaster. After going into the ninth with a 4-1 lead, Andrew Bailey and Vicente Padilla combined for 6 runs in the inning to blow it for another heart-breaker. Can we still call those heart-breakers? We are well beyond that.  This time Laser Show: Dustin Pedroia
i had a bunch of names on a dart board and I hit Pedroia. Pedey will likely play in every game so that's a good start. He had an absolutely awful series in Tampa Bay, but he has picked it up since then.
Pitch Around: B.J. Upton, Jeff Keppinger, & Ben Zobrist

This trio killed the Sox last week in Tampa. Upton was responsible for the walk-off homer in the final game, Keppinger was a big part in the 13-3 rout of the Red Sox, and Zobrist drove in a run in every game.  They combined for 15 hits, 2 homers, 11 RBI, and 8 runs scored.
Don't Fall Behind: David Price
Once again, we will see a Price/Buchholz match-up. Both walked away from the last meeting with a no-decision (game 4). Buchholz had the much better outing, but Price has the better numbers on the season. The Rays are just barely hanging on and you know Price will be reaching back for his extra best stuff. How we see it goin' down The Rays have won 5 straight and are 3 games out of the final wild card spot with 9 games remaining on their schedule. They are going all out in this final home series for the Sox and they will likely sweep the quick two-game series. I hope for that result so the Sox can be assured a protected top 10 pick in the draft. Yeah, that's what they are playing for...or not playing for.

Clay Buchholz Credits Opposing Starter David Price After Red Sox Fall to Rays (Video)

Clay Buchholz realizes that when David Price is opposing you, runs are going to be at a premium. To that end, Buchholz professed that he was surprised the Red Sox hitters looked as good as they did against the AL Cy Young candidate, who threw nine innings of two-run ball en route to a 5-2 Rays win on Tuesday. Being his last start at Fenway for the year, the 28-year-old right-hander...

Rays' Price in line to pitch one-game wild-card playoff

The Tampa Bay Rays have been shifting around other pieces of their rotation, but for David Price, they just want him to go out and pitch. Price will start Tuesday against the Red Sox in Boston on his usual fifth day, and he will do so again Sunday in Chicago against the White Sox. He'll then be lined up for a potential one-game wild-card playoff on Oct. 5. "I feel good...

Rays Rookies Forced to Don Leotards and Wigs While Singing “Call Me Maybe”

David Price of the Tampa Bay Rays was kind enough to capture video of the Rays rookies getting playfully hazed. The rookies were forced to dress up in wigs, leotards and sing “Call Me Maybe” on the warning track. The laughs from the rest of the Rays players make the video just that much better. You have to give it to the rookies as it definitely looks like they gave it their...

Rays rookies dress in drag, do dance number

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher David Price posted this video on his Twitter of this fantastic bit of rookie hazing before tonight's Rays game in Boston against the Red Sox. Tampa's rookies dressed like Jane Fonda, complete with colored leotards, headbands and wigs, and did a little dance in the outfield while "Call Me Maybe" played over the PA at Fenway Park. Well done...

Jon Lester Loses No-Hit Bid, Gives Up Lead While Case of Deja Vu Sets In for Red Sox (Video)

Jon Lester lost his no-hit bid, and then the lead. Still, the Red Sox haven't lost hope. After all, they've seen this movie before. Not even two weeks ago, the Red Sox were in a similar situation after getting no-hit by an opposing starter -- oddly enough, it was Alex Cobb, the same pitcher going for the Rays on Wednesday. Back then, they rallied back to win the game. NESN...

Price fans 13 as Rays beat Red Sox

David Price struck out a season-high 13 and Jeff Keppinger hit a three-run homer as Tampa Bay beat the Boston Red Sox 5-2 on Tuesday night, extending the Rays' winning streak to six and keeping their playoff hopes alive. Tampa Bay entered the day three games behind Oakland for the AL's second wild-card spot and has only eight games remaining, making a loss to the struggling...

Price strikes out 13 in Rays' 5-2 win at Boston

David Price Strikes Out 13, Adds Another Gem to His Cy Young Resume

Editor's note: is going to tell the story of the 2012 Red Sox in Bobby Valentine's words. Each game day, we will select a Valentine quote that sums up the day for the Red Sox. BOSTON –– There's a reason David Price is vying for a Cy Young. Amid a last-second playoff push, the Rays pitcher absolutely dominated the Red Sox on Tuesday en route to handing them...

Price gets 19th win as Rays win sixth straight

BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox certainly didn't slow Tampa Bay's late-season run to the AL's wild card berth last year, so why start now. David Price was overpowering in throwing a complete game for his 19th win, Jeff Keppinger belted a three-run homer and the Rays won their sixth straight with a 5-2 victory over the Red Sox Tuesday night. One year ago, Boston was in...

Series Recap: Rays sweep two games against Red Sox

Weeks back, the Tampa Bay rays found themselves in a tough hole to climb out of to stay in a wild card spot. After sweeping the Red Sox in Boston, they have increased their winning streak to seven games and are controlling what they can: Themselves. The Rays were able to put together some offense at Fenway Park as the pitching was dominant as usual. The Rays scored nine runs over...

Maybe Replacement Umpires Did in the Sox

"Can I see some ID?"Jon Lester -- highest ERA of his career (4.96).Clay Buchholz -- 6 strikeouts per nine innings, lowest of his career.Alfredo Aceves -- 1.295 WHIP, highest of his career.Aaron Cook -- 1.3 home runs per nine innings, highest of his career.OK, so umpires don't affect home runs ... I'm just saying... it's a little suspicious ...

Sox Lose Final Game At Fenway

The Red Sox haven't played the role of spoiler very well this season and the same would be the case last night.  Jon Lester went from having a no hitter to giving up the lead in two at bats.  Lester didn't pitch badly, but he wasn't lights out.  Lester kept putting up zeroes on the scoreboard until the 5th inning.  The Sox gave Lester a teeny tiny lead in the 2nd...

Jon and Farrah Lester Host Inaugural #NVRQT Charity Event! @JLester31 @NVRQT31

Last night during one of the last off days for the Red Sox, Jon and Farrah Lester hosted a fun filled charity event for his #NVRQT Campaign to raise money and awareness for the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (PCRF).  The event was held at the House of Blues and started with a VIP hour where you could mingle with the players before the show started.   As expected, Lester...

Red Sox vs. Orioles

By: Boston has a chance to split the four-game series with the Rays tonight, and whether or not they are successful at getting the split; they have a three –game series with the Orioles starting over the weekend. This marks the first of six games remaining against the Orioles, and even though the Sox would love to see the Yankees miss out on the playoffs, they also...
