Last time

The last signs of a comeback came in New York at the end of July. The Red Sox went into New York one game under .500 and got crushed in game 1, 10-3. The Sox fought back and took games 2 and 3 by the scores of 8-6 and 3-2 respectively. Adrian Gonzalez exploded in game 2, going 3-for-5, with a 3-run HR and 4 RBI. After that effort, the Red Sox still left the series in 9.5 games back and 5th place in the division.

This time

Laser Show: Adrian Gonzalez

Scott called for Gonzo to get hot before the last Yankees/Red Sox meeting and he couldn't be more right. Gonzo can take advantage of the 200ft. left field fence and make the Yankees his ***** again.
Pitch Around: Russell Martin

Martin's last offensive explosion against the Sox was most likely a fluke. Well, 3-for-8 may not have been an explosion, but 2 homers and 4 RBI is not a typical series for him. The Sox can't sleep on Martin at the bottom of the lineup

Don't Fall Behind: Hiroki Kuroda

Kuroda pitched very well against the Sox in their last meeting, scattering 7 hits and surrendering 2 runs in 8 innings.  Hiroki is coming off of a complete game 2-hitter against the Rangers, and you know he is feeling pretty damn good about it. The Sox need to work long counts to prevent him from working into a groove.

How we see it goin' down

There is not much left in the tank, but the Sox are always good for winning at least one game in a series. The Yankees will do to the Red Sox as everyone else has and take 2 out of 3.

Franklin Morales 'Takes the Blame' For Tough Red Sox Loss in New York (Video)

Franklin Morales night didn't quite go as planned on Friday. The Red Sox starter tossed 5 1/3 innings against the Bronx Bombers but ultimately the home runs fell like raindrops at Yankee Stadium with the Yankees heading home with 6-4 win. The loss dropped the Red Sox back to four games under .500 and left Morales feeling like he was responsible. Check out the video above to see...

Jon Lester Paves the Way for Complete Effort From Red Sox Pitching Staff

Jon Lester is back to exuding the confidence of an ace. After four months of beatings, the lefty took the mound against the Yankees and stymied them in Saturday's 4-1 victory, yielding just four hits and one run through seven innings of work. For the first time since May 19, the Red Sox have won two consecutive starts with Lester on the bump. It's only the third time this...

Franklin Morales Isn't Going to Win an Oscar Any Time Soon

Red Sox pitcher Franklin Morales was featured in the MLB video below on The Expendables 3 auditions doing a Jean-Claude Van Damme impression. (Jump to the 22 second mark)  As you can see he should probably stick to his job with the Red Sox, but he was doing Van Damme so the bar was not too high. Rangers pitcher Derek Holland, however, does a pretty good Arnold Schwarzenegger impression.

Sox Beat Yanks Behind Lester's Strong Start

Jon Lester took the mound and continued his climb back to dominance with another nice performance.  Lester was also helped out by some nice performances from Nick Punto and Pedro Ciriaco.  That is probably not how you would have written in up in April, but then anything this year? Jon Lester took the mound against the Yankees looking for his 2nd win in a row.  Thankfully...

Derek Holland Is Hilarious and Franklin Morales Is Awkward With 'The Expendables' Impressions (Video)

We already knew that Derek Holland is pretty good with impressions. We now know that Franklin Morales kind of isn't. They were among a group of MLB players who were featured in a MLB Fan Cave video in which the guys took their turns doing impressions of the cast of The Expendables. No further explanation is needed. Check it out in the video below with big ups to Deadspin for...

Red Sox Live Blog: Jon Lester Looks to Continue Strong Effort In New York Against Yankees

8 a.m.: The Red Sox fell victim to the long ball on Friday night, dropping a game to the Yankees following five solo home runs off the bats of the Bronx Bombers. Franklin Morales was victimized by the New York bats en route to a 6-4 loss. But on Saturday Jon Lester will be on the mound, looking to continue with the solid form he showed when striking out 12 earlier in the week. The...

Gonzalez, Lester lift BoSox over Yanks

Jon Lester shut down the Yankees' offense for seven innings, Adrian Gonzalez provided an early lead with a two-run homer and the Boston Red Sox beat New York 4-1 Saturday for a badly needed win. Yankees nemesis Pedro Ciriaco was 4 for 4, raising his average against New York this year to .517 (15 for 29), and Boston reliever Craig Breslow and catcher Ryan Lavarnway became what...

Lester, Gonzalez lead Red Sox past Yankees

NEW YORK -- This time, the Boston Red Sox didn't have to worry about Jon Lester getting embarrassed. And the only message Adrian Gonzalez needed to send in Lester's defense was the two-run homer he provided in the first inning to help beat the New York Yankees 4-1 Saturday at Yankee Stadium. Lester looked more like the pitcher Boston had counted on entering the season...

It's Going To Be A LONG Weekend

The Yankees hit five solo home runs, four of them off Red Sox starter Franklin Morales in their 6-4 win over Boston in the opening game of their 3-game weekend series in the Bronx.Birthday boy Dustin Pedroia (pictured) gave the Red Sox a 4-3 lead with a 3-run blast of his own in the top of the 3rd inning off Yankees starting pitcher Phil Hughes; for Pedroia it was his 10th long ball...

Your Morning Dump... Where Boston becomes less desirable by the day

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. For most of the past decade, the Red Sox [team stats] have been regarded by a vast majority of players as a desirable team for which to work. And now? “I don’t know,” ace lefty Jon Lester [stats] told...

Red Sox' Insistence on Finding Silver Lining Wearing Thin as Evidence to Contrary Piles Up

Editor's note: is going to tell the story of the 2012 Red Sox in Bobby Valentine's words. Each game day, we will select the best Valentine quote that sums up the day for the Red Sox. Franklin Morales didn't make many mistakes on Friday night against the Yankees, but every one he did make was loud. Nick Swisher had two solo home runs, Derek Jeter had one too and...

Sox Take One, 4-1; Crawford Looking to Have Surgery

A strong outing from Jon Lester, a two-run home run from Adrian Gonzales, and a 4 for 4 day from Pedro Ciriaco (pictured) are enough to get it done.In other news, Carl Crawford reportedly plans to to ask the team's permission to get Tommy John surgery -- next week. If he does he would be out for the rest of the year, but potentially ready at the start of next season.
