New York out-scored the Sox 28-7 in the final series for the final kick in the nuts.  This time Laser Show: Jackie Bradley Jr. One of the hottest bats in the spring and everyone is pretty high on him. I doubt he will continue the tear that he was on in Ft. Myers, but I feel he is going to kick off the regular season on a hot streak. Pitch Around: Kevin Youkilis It is pretty weird putting Youk's name in this category, especially in a Yankees series. He is the only dominant, or sort of dominant, bat in the lineup. The Yankees are stretched thin and Youk is their biggest threat, for now. Don't Fall Behind: CC Sabathia For obvious reasons.  How we see it goin' down Everyone, or almost everyone, is pretty low on the Sox to start the season.Who can blame them? The Yankees are in a terrible situation, plagued with injuries and age, giving the Sox the upper-hand to kick off the 2013 season. I may be too optimistic, though I feel a 2-1 series win for the Sox. All they need to do is get at least one win in the first series to regain some respect.

Jon Lester Doesn’t Want to Discuss Contract Extension During Season, Thinks It’s ‘Too Much of a Distraction’

2013 is a big year for Jon Lester in more ways than one. Not only will Lester’s performance have a huge impact on the type of season the Red Sox have, but the left-hander is also pitching for his next contract. Lester is in the last guaranteed year of the five-year, $30 million extension he signed prior to the 2009 season. The Sox hold a $13 million club option for 2014, but this...

Sabathia's velocity a concern

CC Sabathia's decreased velocity last season, during the spring, and on Opening Day has given reasons for people to be concerned.

C.C. Sabathia not concerned about drop in velocity

Many times a drop in a pitcher's fastball velocity can be indicative of an injury.  Or it can be part of the normal aging process.  Pitcher just can't continue throwing as hard as they used to as they get older.  So what's the reason for C.C. Sabathia's drop in velocity? No one knows for sure, but Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News says Sabathia is not...

Recap: Sox grind out an 8-2 win over the Yankees

We shouldn't get too caught up over one game right? NAHHHHH. CUE THE DUCKBOATS.   162-0 baby! The Red Sox attacked an unusally shaky CC Sabathia and Jon Lester managed to work through a rough inning and let the bullpen come in and do shut down the Yankees and come out with an 8-2 win.  This wasn't a classic Sox victory with the lineup cranking out three or four homers...

Jon Lester Admits ‘It’ll Be Weird’ Playing Against Kevin Youkilis, Who Is Now ‘One of the Bad Guys’

Kevin Youkilis earned the respect of teammates and fans during his eight-plus seasons in Boston. None of that matters now. “Now he’s one of the bad guys. We’ve got to worry about him,” Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester told reporters on Sunday. Youkilis, who was drafted by the Red Sox in 2001, won two World Series rings and was selected to three All-Star Games during his time in...

Opening Day: AKA Spring Training Game #33

Today started like every other weekday season opener for me: I developed a cough, called out sick, piled on Yankee gear from head to toe, and went to my best friend's house to watch the game. The excitement of the season opener soon gave way to the ambivalence that comes from watching a less than ace pitcher and a bunch of utility players take the field. In other words--a Spring...

Andy Pettitte: 'I expect us to be in the World Series'

Many of the preseason projections have the New York Yankees missing the playoffs this season, but veteran starting pitcher Andy Pettitte believes otherwise.   "I don't let my mind go in that direction because I

Game 1: 3 stars of the game

In the first game of the season the Red Sox have already made it difficult for me to pick the top 3 stars of the game. This column will run after every game. The idea is to pick 3 players from either team, who put in the best performances, just like the 3 stars of the game for hockey. I will be keeping track of who earns the awards and with that will be able to accurately predict...

Red Sox 8, Yankees 2

Jon Lester and the Boston Red Sox got off to a quick start after a dreadful 2012 season, giving new manager John Farrell an 8-2 win over the barely recognizable New York Yankees on opening day Monday. Newcomer Shane Victorino led a revamped Red Sox lineup with three RBIs and rookie Jackie Bradley Jr. walked three times and scored twice in his big league debut. Boston's big day...
