No, there wasn't a first inning meltdown this time by Josh Beckett. For that matter, he put zeroes up in the 1st 3 innings as the Red Sox jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Texas Rangers rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. The crusher came in the bottom of the 7th inning. Dustin Pedroia had tied things up in the 6th with his 7th home run of the season but in the bottom of the next inning Beckett (pictured) had runners on 1st & 3rd when he uncorked a wild pitch to allow the go-ahead run to score in what would ultimately be a 5-3 Rangers win in Texas.Up next for the 49-50 Red Sox - a 3-game set against the Yankees in the Bronx. Fasten your seatbelts, Red Sox Nation.

Following another bush league start by testy Boston “ace” Josh Beckett, the feeble Red Sox lost to the Rangers 5-3 last night at the Ballpark in Arlington, Texas. The 32-year-old Beckett (5-9, 4.57 ERA), who has won 130 games, in … Continue reading →
Josh Beckett didn't make himself available to comment about his start Wednesday night, so he didn't offer an explanation for the wild pitch in the seventh inning that allowed the decisive run to score in the Boston Red Sox's 5-3 loss to the Rangers at Texas. However, it isn't difficult to explain the Red Sox's 49-50 record. They are 13-24 in games started by...
The Red Sox had a dramatic win on Tuesday against the Rangers, and made some history in the process. Now, they'll need Josh Beckett to combat his own recent history in order to make some headway in the standings. NESN Nation's Dan Duquette has the blueprint for the Red Sox to build some momentum. A night after Clay Buchholz confirmed he was the man in the Sox rotation, Josh Beckett couldn't keep the momentum going.
Beckett pitched a quality start through six, but fell apart in the 7th. Tied at 3, Beckett hit Elvis Andrus with a two-seamer that got away from him (no, it was not retaliation for the retaliation of the retaliation, as some talking heads will undoubtedly...
Editor's note: NESN.com is going to tell the story of the 2012 Red Sox in Bobby Valentine’s words. Each game day, we will select the best Valentine quote that sums up the day for the Red Sox. It could have been a watershed moment in Josh Beckett's season -- a turning point from which to launch a successful stretch run, put the team on his back and propel the Red Sox to...
8 a.m. ET: Here we go again. All season the Red Sox have been counting on Josh Beckett (5-8, 4.53), and based on his past performance, the team has every right to do so. However, Beckett -- along with fellow starter Jon Lester -- has just not been himself throughout this entire year, showing occasional flashes of his old, ace form, but largely falling somewhere in between disappointing...

Dustin Pedroia may not ever win a gold medal at the Olympics, but don't ever say that he's not a winner. Unfortunately, the Red Sox were losers on Friday, but Pedroia did his best to stave off the inevitable with a first-inning home run to spark the team. The pitching for the Sox faltered, however, and the Sox fell again. Despite the loss, NESN Nation's Dan Duquette is...
Josh Beckett took the loss on Wednesday night
The longest running piece on this blog is “Thoughts I thought” a bullet point recap of a previous night’s game in the Boston sports world.
Here’s the thing: I’m out of thoughts when it comes to the 2012 Boston Red Sox. I’m thoughtless, I’m tapped out, I just have no ideas with the Boston Red Sox anymore.
The only thing I’m...
NEW YORK –– Through 100 games, the Red Sox have lacked fire. And now, Dustin Pedroia is trying to light one under them. Shortly after Friday's series-opener against the Yankees 10-3 –– the eighth loss in the last 10 games –– the Red Sox second baseman challenged the organization and blasted his team for their recent play. "The first 100 games have been (expletive...
Carl Crawford was pulled in the seventh inning of Tuesday night's win in favor of getting Daniel Nava some reps in the field. But Crawford is back in the in Red Sox lineup on Wednesday night, and he's hitting seven spot once again. While Crawford drops down to balance out the bottom of the Boston batting order, Pedro Ciriaco gets his second straight start at the DH and will...
The July 31 trade deadline is quickly approaching. With the second wild card added this year, many teams that normally wouldn't be in contention find themselves in the thick of the playoff hunt and the competition for help is getting fierce. The Red Sox may be a .500 team entering Wednesday, but with a new arm in the rotation, they could make a run at a postseason berth. Josh...
Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
As the Red Sox take the field on Friday at Yankee Stadium, they’ll be one game under .500. They need to go 41-22 — a .650 clip — the rest of the way just to win 90 games.
If the Red Sox lose two out...
“But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have more than enough bread, but I perish here with hunger!’”
The Parable of the Prodigal Son
The quote above comes from the turning point in the life of the initial focal character in the parable of the Prodigal Son. He has finally hit rock bottom after a string of outrageous days and nights...
Wes Welker may be running ads soon saying that his hair restoration treatment with Dr. Robert Leonard was the best thing that ever happened to him. Just don't expect Dustin Pedroia to jump on board. Patriots wide receiver Welker, who had hair follicles moved around his head by Leonard earlier this month, has at least a couple of things in common with the Red Sox second baseman...
