The Diamondbacks got two-out RBI singles from Jason Kubel, Ryan Roberts and Henry Blanco in the sixth to take a one-run lead. Paul Goldschmidt homered for Arizona. Bryan Shaw (1-2) threw one pitch to induce a crucial inning-ending double play in the sixth to get the win. Jose Veras (3-2) took the loss. Brad Ziegler and Daniel Hernandez threw a scoreless seventh and eighth, respectively, for Arizona, then J.J. Putz did the same in t...

Now healthy, D-backs look ready to surge

PHOENIX Slowly but surely, the Diamondbacks are getting the band back together. Daniel Hudson returned to the mound for the first time in almost six weeks Sunday, Chris Young tracked down balls in center field behind him, and much was well in the D-backs' world after a comeback 4-3 victory over Milwaukee on Sunday. The D-backs won a home series for the first time in seven...

D-backs' Montero out until at least Monday

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero is out at least until Monday with a strained groin muscle, he told reporters Saturday night. Montero suffered the injury about a week ago. Montero was an All-Star last season when he hit .282 with 18 home runs and a team-high 86 RBI. This year, he is batting .252 with two home runs and 21 RBI through 38 games after signing a one-year...

Diamondbacks Extend Miguel Montero

The Diamondbacks signed Miguel Montero to a five-year, $60 million extension over the weekend. The richest deal in Diamondbacks franchise history effectively keeps Montero in Arizona for the rest of his prime. It also ensures that the team has a very good player at an important position locked up at a fairly reasonable price. Set to hit free agency after the season, the 28-year...

Lucroy looks to continue hot hitting in Arizona

Opponents have been making themselves at home at Arizona's Chase Field all season. The Milwaukee Brewers have been doing that for years, but are encountering some resistance this weekend. The Diamondbacks try to build on an encouraging win and take a rare series from the Brewers in the desert in Sunday's finale. Arizona (21-26) started the season in impressive fashion...

For D-backs, Montero worth the investment

PHOENIX -- In the end, the Diamondbacks decided that they were likely to lose catcher Miguel Montero if he hit the free-agent market this winter, even as he expressed a desire to stay. It was not a risk they were willing to take. And once the D-backs agreed to add a fifth year to Monteros contract extension, the five-year, 60 million deal was finalized. I couldnt be happier, to...

Diamondbacks still can't solve lefties

The Arizona Diamondbacks have faced two kinds of pitchers this -- righties and wrongies. Arizona went 24-24 against left-handed starters last season, but it has had unexpected difficulty against them these days, a problem exacerbated in a 4-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants' Barry Zito on Monday afternoon. Zito has two of his four victories against the D-backs, who have...

Greinke (5-2), who had allowed one run total in his previous three starts, gave up seven runs and a season-high 10 hits in 2 1-3 innings. Rookie left-hander Wade Miley (6-1), allowed five...

Cahill, Arroyo earn the nod

Start 'Em Trevor Cahill (@SF, @SD) Cahill's 3.74 ERA and 1.28 WHIP may not seem that intriguing, yet the Arizona arm's splits give a better endorsement for implementation this week. In five games on the road this season, Cahill owns a 2.76 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 2012 versus 5.16 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in Phoenix. With both starts away from Chase Field, Cahill should get...
