When spring began, and MLB fans and predictors were making their choices for who would rule the year, the Yankees and Tigers were foregone conclusions. New York would get some kind of playoff spot out of the American League East, and Detroit would win the American League Central running away. But the first few months of the season seemed to prove common sense wrong. The Tigers started hot but fell below .500 in May and didn't get back above it until July 6. The Yankees played middling ball until late May, when they finally took off and posted the best...

Ichiro Suzuki Trade Proves 'Face of Franchise' Title Means Less and Less in Today's Game (Video)
When Ichiro Suzuki was traded to the Yankees on Monday, many around the entire baseball world scratched their heads. Not because Ichiro is going to turn the tide in the pennant race, however, but just because after everything he meant to the Mariners, nobody knew that the team was willing to trade him, nevermind that he would request the trade himself. NESN Nation's Dan Duquette...

Tigers acquire Infante, Sanchez from Marlins
It's deja vu all over again.
The Tigers made their move for a second baseman and a starting pitcher on Monday, and there's a familiar face coming back to Detroit.
Marlins infielder Omar Infante, who played for the Tigers from 2002-07, is returning to Comerica Park, and he's bringing starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez with him. In return, Detroit is giving up their top...
Pittsburgh Sweeps
With Sunday’s 3-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the books, the Miami Marlins have lost five games in a row. Miami is now at a season worst seven games under .500 after being swept in Pittsburgh. Overall on the road trip, the Marlins loss five of six and have nearly taken themselves out of playoff contention in the process.
Anibal Sanchez made what may turn out to be...

BREAKING: Ichiro Dealt to the Yanks
In a stunning move, the New York Yankees acquired longtime Seattle Mariner Ichiro Suzuki for two players.
The trade became official at 6:30 PM just before the Yankees series against the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field.
The Yankees sent pitchers D.J. Mitchell and Danny Farquhar to the Mariners and the Yankees have agreed to pay just over $2 million of Ichiro's salary. Ichiro...
Impact: Ichiro in the Bronx
Apparently, the Yankees and Mariners both have ninjas for GMs, because the trade of Ichiro Suzuki to New York seemed to come out of nowhere. Ichiro still has a big name and a grand track record, but is he anything more than a defensive whiz at this point and can his move from spacious Safeco to the short porch in Yankee Stadium help his fantasy value?
Ichiro has done next to nothing...
Detroit Tigers Acquire Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante
Suddenly, all kinds of action is breaking prior to the non-waiver deadline next Tuesday. Eric Schmidt already reported on the possibility of Ryan Dempster joining the Braves. That deal has been held up for reasons no one is quite sure. What we are sure of is the fact that the Tigers and Marlins have made history. No, a deal involving a starting pitcher and second baseman...
The lack of big trades.
As the 2012 baseball trading deadline approaches, it seems like there haven’t been any big names change teams. Sure, Ichiro, Anibal Sanchez, Omar Infante, and (possibly) Ryan Dempster found new homes, but players just aren’t moving like you’d hope they would.
This promotes boredom among fantasy baseball owners. We need the drama of the trading deadline.
There...
Turner a High Price to Pay for Tigers
There were a lot of moving parts to the deal that sent Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante to Detroit this week. The most significant part of that deal, however, may be the inclusion of righty pitching prospect, Jacob Turner. It's that part of the deal that's the biggest gamble for Detroit, even though their acquisitions clearly make them a far better team in 2012.
