What does Ike Davis have to do to get his job back?

Sure, why not write another Ike Davis column! You see, a lot has changed in the last week, as Josh Satin (Davis’ direct replacement) has gone on a tear and appears steadfast in wanting to keep the job at first base. Also, Davis is doing his best to reclaim the job, as he has now gone back-to-back games with hitting a home run in Las Vegas. Satin, who hit his first career home run...

Ike Davis Doubles and Homers For Triple-A Las Vegas

Ike Davis had a big night for Triple-A Las Vegas tonight as they beat the Fresno Grizzlies 2-0. Davis went 3-for-4 with a double and his seventh homerun since being demoted. He is now batting .293 in 74 at-bats with the 51s. Original Post 7/3 John Harper of the New York Daily News published an article this morning discussing Ike Davis and the Mets’ need to figure out if he’s...

Mets recall 1B Davis from Triple-A

The New York Mets recalled first baseman Ike Davis from Triple-A Las Vegas. Davis, demoted on June 10 due to a poor start to the 2013 season, was batting fourth against Milwaukee on Friday night. Davis was hitting .161 with five home runs and 16 RBIs in 55 games before being sent down. He made some mechanical adjustments during his stay in the minors and batted .293 with seven...

Why Bringing Ike Davis Back Now Is a Bad Move

The average baseball fan will look at the Mets boxscore from last night and assume all is well with Ike Davis after his month long demotion to AAA Las Vegas.  However, those who watched the game, including Mets broadcaster Keith Hernandez, may have seen a different picture than the boxscore depicted. The story that the boxscore will portray is this:  a 3-5 effort with two RBI and...

Davis Will Play Everday At First Base And Push Satin To The Bench

Updated by Joe D. on 7/5 Based on comments made by Terry Collins Thursday and Wednesday, Ike Davis will return to the Mets and be immediately installed as the everyday first baseman. “We’re not bringing Ike up to be a platoon player I can assure you of that.” Wow… Not even to be considered in a platoon… Davis batted .293 during his stint with Las Vegas and slugged seven...

Keith Says Josh Satin Opened Some…Eyebrows

Keith Hernandez, the man whose former mustache was the inspiration behind the name of this blog, has once again given us some wonderful material to use from his time on the air. Kevin Burkhardt was giving us another one of his riveting reports, this time on how Josh Satin reacted to being benched for Ike Davis, and Keith then gave all of us this wonderful gem. From @RandomMetsTweets...

Josh Satin’s value to the Mets

It’s no surprise that as the Mets sit here in July, many new faces have come up and seen time in the big leagues. One of those new faces has come up and taken over at first base. That is none other than Josh Satin.  With Ike Davis finding himself in the minors and Lucas Duda hurt, the Mets turned to a prospect that they liked, but just couldn’t find room for at the big league...

Josh Satin Salvaging A Rough Season for Jewish Hitters

The MLB season is approximately at its halfway point, and so far, it has not been a good season for most Jewish position players. The most accomplished active Jewish player, Ryan Braun, has been on the DL since June 10th with a bruised right thumb. This is the first ever trip to the disabled list for the five-time All-Star, and he is not expected back until after the All-Star break...

Nieuwenhuis Goes Crazy, Davis Goes Insane, Wheeler Wins The Game!

KIRK, KIRK, KIRK, KIRK, KIRK, KIRK… What a comedy of errors we had in this one as the New York Mets walloped the Milwaukee Brewers by the score of 12-5 tonight at Miller Park. This was a fun game and I hope you all got a chance to watch it. I’m going to forego a retelling of all the many Brewer baserunning blunders and just get to the stuff we really care about – what did...

Trade Deadline: Finding Underrated Talent in Milwaukee

As we approach the trading deadline, anybody who has a keyboard will be coming up with trade ideas for the New York Mets. The truth is, I try to stay away from the “rumor” machine because I feel like I’ve learned my lesson with getting enthralled in things that never actually happen. The Mets are in an interesting position because so much of what they do moving forward depends...

Mets all star history: the 1960′s

With the All Star Game coming to Citi Field, it might be fun to run down Mets in All Star Game history.  First up the 1960s. 1962: Game 1 7/10 DC Stadium, Washington, DC NL 3-AL1 The Mets’ first representatives for an All Star Game were centerfielder Richie Ashburn as a reserve outfielder, and skipper Casey Stengel on NL manager Fred Hutchinson‘s coaching staff.  MLB...

Beer Country Primer for Mets Fans

When I was a kid Wisconsin was one of those places that existed in name only. Places like Wisconsin and Minnesota and Kentucky were as unlikely to actually exist as Bora Bora or the Canary Islands or Narnia. In a “tree falling in the forest that no one hears” kind of way, if I wasn’t aware of these places were they even real? Did I know anyone who had been there and returned...
