Mets Merized Online:
This morning on WFAN, Craig Carton was ripping Ike Davis over a report from a source who told him that Davis went ballistic in the clubhouse after the Mets opted to promote Zack Lutz instead of him.
“How can they promote him over ****ing me,” he reportedly screamed at manager Wally Backman..
He became such a distraction, that Backman called Sandy Alderson to intervene and calm the slighted and infuriated first baseman down.
Davis homered again in last night’s game to give him five homers in his last four games played.
Yesterday, Terry Collins told reporters that the Mets did not promote Davis because they were facing three left-handers.
Terry Collins said before Sunday’s game, ”We don’t want to put him in a funk right away.”
Several reports are suggesting that Davis could join the team for Thursday’s makeup game in Colorado.
Entering yesterday’s game, Davis was batting .310/.463/.690 with four home runs, 15 runs scored, and 8 RBIs. In 42 at-bats he has drawn 12 walks and struck out ...

I had two emails from readers asking me why the Mets elected to promote Zack Lutz rather than Ike Davis this weekend.
The fact is that the Mets didn’t want to set David up for failure and with three lefties coming up in John Lannan of the Phillies, and John Danks and Chris Sale of the White Sox, they thought it best to leave Davis in Las Vegas where he can continue getting used...
The Mets have just finished playing eight road games against the Braves and Phillies and went 5-3 in the process. Ordinarily this would be cause for celebration but in a season mismanaged nearly all the way around, it hardly merits a “woo-hoo!” With fans joining management in punting the 2013 season, instead we look ahead to the future.
Our first glimpse of Zack Wheeler has...
The starting role for the All-Star Game is Matt Harvey’s for the taking. With three more starts for the New York Mets, including an audition for San Francisco and National League manager Bruce Bochy, should Harvey run the table and go into the break at 10-1 with an ERA close to 2.00, it is totally realistic.
Unless Harvey tanks, he should get the ball.
HARVEY: Should get All-Star...
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. That’s some sage advice for a franchise who oftentimes ends up making a good situation bad, and a bad situation worse.
The Mets have always been an organization that loves to get their grubby little hands into everything. Sometimes their meanderings are harmless, but every now and then they do something that really tries my patience as a Met...
Shortstop Ruben Tejada is ready to begin a rehab assignment later this week for the GCL Mets, according to Terry Collins.
Collins said Tejada will work his way up to Triple-A Las Vegas before completing his rehab and being activated.
Tejada was placed on the DL on May 30 with a right quadriceps strain suffered while reaching for a foul popup.
The Mets manager punted a question asking...
Nope, I couldn’t write the headline with a straight face. I tried, but Shaun Marcum’s start in his first year with the New York Mets is reaching historic proportions. To the point of being humorous if it weren’t so aggravating.
Marcum, who has had several strong relief performances, but generally has pitched in bad luck and an inability to avoid the big inning, will be going...
The New York Mets have signed a minor league agreement with Mexican League pitcher Giancarlo Alvarado.
The 35-year-old right hander has officially signed with the team, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post.
Previously with the Saraperos de Saltillo of the Mexican League, Alvarado was 0-2 with a 4.03 ERA over 38 innings pitched this season.
After beginning his career with the...
Opened a box of 2013 Topps Museum Collection over the weekend. Did I find any Mets? Watch to find out.
Also watch to see me struggling to open the damn packs, which is entertaining in its own way…

Pitching coach Dan Warthen told Mike Puma of the New York Post that he would adjust the rotation to allow Matt Harvey to start the All Star Game if Bruce Bochy gives him the nod.
“That is 20 days away, a lot could change,” Collins said, referring to postponements that could alter the rotation. “But if he gets picked to start the game, I would think we would adjust it.”
According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, The New York Mets have traded OF Collin Cowgill to the Los Angeles Angels for minor league OF Kyle Johnson. Cowgill was acquired last December from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for third baseman Jefry Marte and was appointed the club’s opening day center fielder this year, but never got a prolonged opportunity to play despite an impressive...
Former Mets’ star Lee Mazzilli made the borough of Brooklyn his stomping grounds growing up.
Abraham Lincoln H.S. in Coney Island was his home until the Mets drafted him right out of high school in 1973.

The Mets travel to the South Side of Chicago for Wheeler Day! The Mets are coming off of a needed off day after pounding the Phillies in an 8-0 win. Harvey was great pitching 6 shutout innings (he was stopped by the rain, but really he was stopped by the umpires who were stopped by the rain) and David Wright had himself a day going 4-5, 2 2B, 3B, HR. Today Wheeler looks to build...
If the opponents in the National league east have not become impressed with Matt Harvey, the Philadelphia Phillies have. David Wright had a up close and personal view of the Philly hitters as the Mets ace (Yes I said since earlier this season, he is the ace) made believers of the Phillies.
Wright knew it was going to be a good day.
He saw the surprise on Jimmy Rollins’ face afterâ€...
