TEAMS: New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves, Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Angels
I remember a time when I was younger and I would have such blind faith in every athlete that donned the Yankee uniform. When a player struggled mightily, I cheered that much harder for him to do well. I’m 27 now (I know, still young) but Mark Teixeira is very slowly turning himself into a very unlikeable ballplayer. For their money, the New York Yankees have gotten one elite year out of “Tex.” The version that we have seen from 2010 until now, is not the version that the Yankees signed up for. This version is certainly not worth over $20Million a year.
Now, it is unfair to expect the type of half seasons he put up with the Atlanta Braves & Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim if you hit Pasadena you’ve gone too far. Personally, I was expecting closer to the numbers he put up with while he was with Texas. Although, the 2008 he had with Atlanta would fall under that umbrella, as well. This version of Teixeira refuses to make the necessary adjustments to return to elite form. Now, we...

Sabathia Says He'll Pitch on Friday
From George King:CC Sabathia will throw his first bullpen session since going on the disabled list today and said he believes he will return Friday in Cleveland.
While manager Joe Girardi would certainly welcome the Yankees’ staff ace back to the rotation the first day Sabathia is eligible, he is waiting to see how the big left-hander does during workouts .

MLB Power Rankings: August 17 and Yankees claim the top spot again
Wow!
New York Yankees (Photo credit: Keith Allison)
What an exciting time for baseball, as these last 6-weeks will be about as competitive as ever.
The New York Yankees are back on the top again this week because with all their injuries, most recently to ace CC Sabathia, this team is still winning. The Bronx Bombers went 3-1 vs. the Texas Rangers this past week, and were the...
Derek Jeter Adds Another Milestone to Future Hall of Fame Career In Yankees Win
While he is already a lock for the Baseball Hall of Fame as soon as he is eligible, New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter continues to add to his legacy by adding another milestone in last night’s victory over the Boston Red Sox.
In the fifth inning, Jeter hit one of five solo Yankees’ home runs in a 6-4 win over Boston, and this one was special.
It was the 250th...
Yankees Game 120 Lineup: 08/18/12
The Yankees will send David Phelps to the mound today in game two of a three-game set against the Boston Red Sox. Phelps has faced the Red Sox twice this year, both times in a relief role. He allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings with five strikeouts. The 25-year-old is filling for the injured C.C. Sabathia, who is on the 15-day disabled list with a sore left elbow.

Yankees SS Jeter's home run puts him in elite company
New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter's solo homer in the bottom of the fifth inning Friday against the visiting Boston Red Sox was his 250th of his career. Jeter joins Craig Biggio, Rickey Henderson and Willie Mays as the only players in major league history with 3,000 hits, 300 steals and 250 homers. Jeter's homer tied the game 4-4.
Andruw Jones Falls Down on the Job
Andruw Jones was once one of the greatest defensive outfielders in baseball history. While the Gold Glove is an inherently flawed award, for reference sake, Jones at one point in his career won 10 straight for his work in center field. Now 35, Jones has been relegated to playing left field in a part-time role with the Yankees. Apparently with good reason after losing a fly ball in...
Nick Swisher Turns 'Rainmaker' on Full Blast, Powering Yankees to Homer-Happy Win (Video)
Nick Swisher was making it rain on Friday night -- in a baseball sense. The Yankees first baseman blasted two home runs off Red Sox pitching, two out of five home runs launched by the Bronx Bombers as they lived up to their billing. All of the blasts were of the solo variety, so the damage could have been much worse, but it was damage enough. NESN Nation's Dan Duquette is upset...
Bronx Bombing
The Yankees took down the Red Sox 6-4 tonight. However, the real story is about the fireworks Yankee hitters provided.
Derek Jeter, the first-ballot hall of famer, just added to his legend by hitting career homerun number 250. That homerun put him in a very, very limited group. The only other player to ever have 3,000 hits, 250 homeruns, 300 steals and 1,200 RBIs is The Say Hey...
Garcia Shines in Win Over Rangers
Yankees vs. Rangers Post Game Recap 8/15
The Yankees were able overcome a long rain delay to get their third straight win over the Texas Rangers beating them 3-2.
Freddy Garcia was very good against the frightening Texas lineup in earning his 7th win of the season. Garcia went 6.2 innings allowing four hits, one walk, two runs, and had six strikeouts. The only runs Texas was able...

Ryan Lavarnway Will Start Behind the Plate, Bat Sixth Against David Phelps, Yankees
Ryan Lavarnway sat out the last three games after playing four in a row. He'll be back in there Saturday against David Phelps and the Yankees. Lavarnway will bat sixth for the Red Sox, who have lost three of their last four, including Friday night's series opener. The 25-year-old enters Saturday's contest with a .125 average (9-for-39) in 17 games this season. Nick Punto...
Yankees use home runs to down Red Sox
NEW YORK -- Dustin Pedroia rounded first, then stopped, hopping up and down in frustration, as he suddenly had no chance to keep moving forward. Neither did the struggling Boston Red Sox for another night as New York Yankees center fielder Curtis Granderson caught Pedroia's eighth-inning bid for a game-tying, second home run at the warning track. Instead, Nick Swisher'...
Red Sox Live Blog: Jon Lester Looks to Continue Strong Effort In New York Against Yankees
8 a.m.: The Red Sox fell victim to the long ball on Friday night, dropping a game to the Yankees following five solo home runs off the bats of the Bronx Bombers. Franklin Morales was victimized by the New York bats en route to a 6-4 loss. But on Saturday Jon Lester will be on the mound, looking to continue with the solid form he showed when striking out 12 earlier in the week. The...
Yankees-White Sox Preview
The AL East-leading New York Yankees have rebounded from their rough patch.
The AL Central-leading Chicago White Sox, meanwhile, are suddenly in a little slump, and a home series against the Yankees might not be the best way to break out of it.
Surging New York could have Mark Teixeira back in the lineup as it looks to win its seventh straight game on Chicago's South Side in...
Summer Of Discontent Revisited: Five Straight Losses To New York In 2006
2006 was the year Johnny Damon went turncoat and put on pinstripes, then tormented the Sox in a key five-game August series.
It’s time for another round of the Boston Red Sox & New York Yankees this weekend, as Team Turmoil heads to the Bronx for a three-game series with any wild-card hopes pretty much a pipe dream. It’s also a time for some bad memories. The third weekend...

Just like most players, he plays under the weather and with injury....and the only reason fans know about it is the media. They ask questions and Tex answers. Just like Jete and most players, he does not use them as excuse..
This year is no different from the others, except one notable year when he started un-Tex like...hot from the get go in the first half.
I disagree vehemently about your statement that he is becoming unlikeable. Au contraire, Tex conducts himself very likeably...on and off the field.
I cannot imagine a winning Yanks team sans Tex. Playing sick and/or injured, nobody-in all the leagues-plays first base better than or as well as Tex.
