Brendan's take: In a move sure to go under the radar to most fantasy players, the Phillies acquired Ty Wigginton from the Rockies. He'll prove valuable in not only NL leagues but also in deeper mixed daily ones. His multi-position eligibility is a perfect fit for the Phillies, who have an aging Utley and Polanco at second and third respectively, an injured Ryan Howard, and uncertainty at both corner outfield spots. Look for Wigginton to get ignored like he does every year and quielty put up 17 homers with a .260 AVG. I see him getting 350-plus ABs in Philadelphia and proving to be a great 'glue guy' for both them and your fantasy team.

Charlie's take: Wiggy will find a decent amount of playing time in Philly, but outside of deep leagues and NL-only leagues, he may not be worth drafting. That being said, keep tabs on the health of the Phillies infield as opening day nears. If he opens the season as a starter he could run into his yearly power binge early. Fantasy GMs will have to watch Wiggy closely, as usual. He may hit anywhere from .240-.260, but it's the power and position flexibility that will make him valuable in spurts. Make sure he's on your team once he stats launching baseballs into the stands.

Phillies Get Ty Wigginton in Deal with Rockies

The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired utility infielder Ty Wigginton for a player to be named later or cash from the Colorado Rockies. The 34 year old plays third base, second base, and first base. Wigginton hit .242 with 15 homeruns in 130 games for the Rockies in 2011. He is a career .265 hitter with 158 homeruns. Wigginton will give the Phillies some flexibility in the infield...

Trading for Wigginton is Like Shopping at Marshall’s

(Photo: AP)Stores like Marshall’s and TJ Maxx do great business by selling surplus designer merchandise at prices significantly lower than retail department stores. Often times, you can find merchandise that is literally identical to products found in Bloomingdales and Macy’s. I’m not sure if Ruben Amaro Jr. shops at Marshall’s or TJ Maxx, but the acquisition of Ty Wigginton...

The Colorado Rockies deal Ty Wiggington to the Phillies

The Rockies have dealt 34-year old righty swinging 1B/3B Ty Wigginton to the Phillies for either a player to be named later or cash. Wigginton played in 130 games for the Rockies last year and he was 97 of 401 (.242 avg, .731 OPS) with 52 runs scored, 15 homers, 47 RBIs and 8 stolen bases. The Rockies are going to miss Wigginton’s versatility, but it opens up money in the budget...

Colorado Rockies Trade Utility Player Ty Wigginton to the Philadelphia Phillies

According to the Colorado Rockies' official team Twitter account, they have traded utility man Ty Wigginton to the Phillies in exchange for a player to be named later or cash. Wigginton's acquisition by the Phillies means in all likelihood that the team has given up in their pursuit of free-agent outfielder Michael Cuddyer, who was most recently with the Minnesota Twins. ...

Insurance plan: Phillies acquire Ty Wigginton from Rockies

While other teams are overspending for defensive-minded middle infielders not likely to advance them up the standings, the Philadelphia Phillies have expertly acquired a decent piece of corner infield insurance at a very affordable rate. As first reported by Fox Sports' Jon Morosi on Sunday afternoon, the Phillies will receive Ty Wigginton from the Colorado Rockies in exchange...

Ty Wigginton Traded to Phillies; Jim Thome Avoids Imminent Broken Hip

Seriously, if Jim Thome was even considering playing first base for the Philadelphia Phillies until Ryan Howard got better, he had another thing coming. Like hip surgery. The Colorado Rockies have no use for Ty Wigginton anymore, so they traded him away to the Phillies for some cash or a player to be named later. Not a bad deal for Philly though either, considering all they...

Phillies boost bench, 3B, add Ty Wigginton

In a saavy move (did Gillick lock Ruben in the closet and make the call?), the Phillies acquired Ty Wigginton, and his giant head, from the Rockies for a player-to-be-named or cash. Wigginton will give the Phillies 70% of what Michael Cuddyer might have, but at a fraction of the cost ($4 million, with a $4 million option for next year) and risk. Though he’s not a great defensive...

Wednesday Morning Bench Coach

Getting’ Wiggy With It?[Sorry ‘bout that sub-title. It’ll never happen again.]I like this move for the Phils. It give them short-term insurance for Howard at first and long-term they get a serviceable alternative to Polanco/LF a few times a week and then a more than serviceable RH bat off of the bench. Also, remember when the guy from Yahoo!!!!! tried to steal our “Howard...
