It’s only a couple weeks into the 2012 MLB season, but we’re already seeing a couple of players who are making an impact on their teams as rookies. Two of the more intriguing rookies are international transfers Yu Darvish and Yoenis Cespedes. Darvish has filled in nicely into the Texas Rangers rotation, posting a 2-0 record with a 3.57 era in 3 starts. Cespedes has shown off his power for the Oakland Athletics, hitting 4 HR and driving in 12 runs in 13 games. As expected, his average at .222 is much lower than his .300+ career Cuban average, but expect that number to climb as he gets more acclimated to Major League pitching. A couple of other players making the most of their rookie seasons are Baltimore Orioles pitcher Wei-Yin Chen and Cincinnati Reds shortstop Zack Cozart. Both players are filling much needed holes on their teams. For more info on how MLB rookies...

Yu Darvish’s Command Problem

The quality of Yu Darvish‘s stuff is glaringly obvious. His fastball sits between 91-95 MPH and has serious run, while he throws a pair of breaking balls that dive differently and works in an 89 MPH cutter with late action. And, he’s got a wide enough variety of options to give hitters a lot of different looks. As you can see, there are no distinct clumps there. He’s thrown...

Rangers prove they're the class of AL

These are baseball's most deceptive weeks. Bad teams play well. Good teams play poorly. The standings lie. Just not in the case of the Texas Rangers. The Rangers have allowed the fewest runs in the major leagues. The Rangers have scored the most runs in the major leagues. The Rangers own the best record in the major leagues. The Rangers are the best team in the major leagues...

Rangers rout Tigers in ALCS rematch

DETROIT (AP) -- Yu Darvish pitched two-hit ball into the seventh inning and Mike Napoli homered for the fourth straight game, leading the Texas Rangers to a 10-3 rout of the Detroit Tigers on Thursday night. The Rangers beat the Tigers in six games in last year's AL championship series, winning the clincher 15-5. This one wasn't much closer, with Texas scoring five runs...

Red-hot Napoli helps Darvish tame Tigers

Mike Napoli homered in his fourth straight game and Yu Darvish pitched into the seventh inning as the visiting Texas Rangers extended their winning streak to seven with a 10-3 win over the Detroit Tigers. The Rangers outhit the Tigers 19-5 and won despite leaving 15 runners on base. Texas’ 11-2 start matches the 1989 team for the best record in franchise history after 13 games...

Tigers become Rangers' latest victim

Game 2012.14: Rangers at Tigers

Well, last night was a hide tanning. To be honest, 10 runs isn’t much considering over 1 out of every 2 Rangers batters reached based. The Rangers were 5-18 with RISP and had only 4 XBH. 4 out of 19. That’s incredible. Despite all of that, what was most frustrating to me was that the Tigers let Yu Darvish out of the game with only 1 ER, despite 5 walks, 1 WP and 121 pitches...
